While walking on cliffs near Ballycotton today my wife spotted this fellow, obviously a foreign visitor as I don’t think we have any native to Ireland. He was about 6″ inches long, photos aren’t great as I only had a small zoom lens with me.
Hello All. That is a common lizard. They are indeed common in Ireland. The Irish Wildlife Trust have a map on http://www.biology.ie where you can mark where you see one on a Google map. Its amazing. I just looked and there are 99 sightings of lizards in Ireland and they seem to be everywhere. I use the site a lot to map what I photograph.
Just as good it is not common knowledge that they live here as people would probably start killing them or something. I love the photographs. You should send them to Biology.ie Lizard survey.
Regards,
Anna.
