Used equipment sale…PLEASE READ!

shutterbugParticipant
I am trying to set up a venue for a sale of used photographic equipment, if like me you have surplus
gear that is gathering dust and you would like to get a new home for it.I am trying to keep the costs as low as possible and hopefully will be able to get a community hall or
something like that, at maybe a cost of €10 per table, this of course depends on how much interest
is shown in taking a table. I am aiming for 10 to 15 tables. I am trying for Greystones/Bray area
and a weekend say Saturday moring 10am till 2pm.Is this a good idea? Do you think enough interest will be generated in a small place like Greystones?
Would anyone here be interested in it?Early stages yet but would love a bit of feedback.
PixelleMemberNow that’s a good idea.
I’ve noticed that some members on the buy and sell section here are also into swapping gear, might it be possible to extend the remit a bit?
stcstcMemberyou should offer it to some of the camera clubs in the area instant ammounts of both buyers and sellers
another would be to do an auction maybe online for example
maybe its a possible thing to do here?
shutterbugParticipantThe main problem is finding somewhere to hold it, without the hassle of having to
provide PLI (Public Liability Insurance) so maybe Camera clubs would be a good idea
as they usually have premises already, dont know if PLI would be an issue though if
you are inviting the public in??? maybe it would.Anyway watch this space, I will keep you all informed :)
Dermot1Participantshutterbug, I work in the mermaid in bray and I could ask our artistic director if she’d allow it to go ahead on the premises, she’s a photog herself so might be just a case of finding a day that suits all, the latest brochure is out but if you held off on this till the next season which begins in April it might be possible to tie it in with a film screening on a Saturday or Sunday that’s photography related (i could donate my time as projectionist) and get some of the members here as well as photography clubs and photography college students along to watch and maybe buy gear. If you want I can bring it up and see how receptive she would be to such an event. I think the swap idea by Pixelle could be a runner too, a lot of possibilities with print swaps and film swaps also my favorite film for yours and such like. let me know and I can put out the feelers. for what it’s worth there’s a couple of other photogs on staff who I could enlist to do a bit of gentle arm twisting as I’m sure it’s something they’d like also.
shutterbugParticipantDermot that sounds great, I was thinking of the Mermaid or maybe Hotels, maybe a bit of an
exhibition could be incorporated, Buy, Sell, Swap, View could be great :) I didnt get a wink of
sleep last night as my head was spinning with ideas :lol:April sounds good as there could be quite a bit of organising to do, if the response is good.
Thanks a million for your input, I dont mind this becoming a Photography Ireland event, so
keep the suggestions coming :)Great stuff, I am all fired up for the new year!!
markst33ParticipantshutterbugParticipantWork in progress Mark, will keep you all informed when I have more news :)
Thanks for the interest.shutterbugParticipantWell have been working away at getting this off the ground, I have found a venue which is
big enough to hold a decent sized “Photography Fair” plus space for an Exhibition. I haven’t
worked out final costs yet as this will depend on the amount of interest I can muster up.I plan on sending e-mails to camera clubs inviting them to take part, and obviously the more
the merrier. There is a lot of organising to do yet and I am hoping to get this done and ready
for mid April. As I am off to New Zealand next week for a month I will be restricted as to what
I can organise. I will have the laptop with me so will be able to respond to e-mails etc.I will also be inviting camera shops to attend, dont know if they will be interested but if you dont
ask you dont get!So basically what I hope is have X amount of tables for people to buy, sell, trade or swap any
equipment that is no longer being used. This will be either a Saturday or Sunday mid morning to
mid afternoon. The exhibition will be photographs mounted or framed, for sale or not, and will be
restricted to a maximum number (to be decided).Any interest, comments or suggestions welcomed.
Mark if you think this should be moved please do so, thanks :)
shutterbugParticipantJust a bit of an update, the place I went to see yesterday wasn’t a runner, to messy to find and get to
so I couldnt see people looking for it, anyway have another to see today and will let you know later
if it is any good.I have got someone to make some flyers for me, and have drafted an email for distribution to camera
clubs which I will send out this evening, when I am more sure of the venue. Will keep you posted :)
markst33ParticipantI am a member of Malahide Camera club so I will let all the members know when you have a venue
shutterbugParticipantshutterbugParticipantQuick update (again) I have my venue Charlesland Golf Club, Greystones, Co. Wicklow.
I have a choice of either Saturday 16th April or Sunday 17th April. I was initially thinking
Sunday but if people are relying on public transport then I am thinking Saturday would be
the better option.Any opinions for either day would be appreciated.
Alan RossiterParticipantHi Jenny,
Willie Farrell (Sec of Wexford CC) passed this on to me so we’ve posted it on the club forum. Hopefully some will take up a space for you. My wife has developed an interest in photography so I’m trying to hold on to as much as I can right now!! :?
Alan.
