UWA for 5DmkII
-
jonwrightParticipant
Hi gang, need some advice yet again :D
would like to venture into trying UWA shooting with my 5DmkII, wondered if anyone can recommend a reasonable priced decent lens to buy or if they have one for sale that will work well?
I know the rumours are out that Canon hope to bring out a 14-24L but though i’d love it it will be beyond my budget, and other half would kill me!!!
appreciate any help and advice.
many thanks
JonbrendancullenParticipantHi Jon – I’ve seen some images on 500px taken with this lens – and i have been very impressed. Very affordable – $379 if you know someone stateside.

I plan to get one late spring.
You can’t attach filters – but you can bracket landscape and Photoshop later. The landscape shots I’ve seen have hardly any noticeable distortion. You will get lots though of your doing architecture. It’s manual focus – but with live view doing landscapes – no problem.
Here’s one of many web reviews.

There is an older version so watch which one you bid/buy.
for the price and quality – you won’t beat it.
This is a google image search result.

jonwrightParticipanthi Brendan, thanks a mill for that, looks the biz! Now just gotta find some relatives across the atlantic:)
really appreciate it
all best JonbrendancullenParticipantor you can pay the extra €100 and get it from UK.
jonwrightParticipantjust to update got paid for a job that id done while back so can afford to stretch budget for uwa lens to €600 maybe €650,
theres a year old Canon EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM for €560 or a new one for €670 which would be pushing budget over slightly, also theres a second hand Sigma 15-30mm f/3.5-4.5 DG for €340 , what are your thoughts and advice?
thanks again JonbrendancullenParticipantI thought you were going Ultra – ie – wider than 17mm. I own this Canon lens – and its a great bit of kit. f/5.6 to f/16 – very sharp.
Canon 17-40 on Amazon for £579.00 – Free delivery to Ireland
http://www.camerapricebuster.co.uk/prod.php?n=CanonEF17-40mmf4LUSM&p=30£80 Canon Cashback Spring Promotion 2013 – 7th March 2013 and Friday 31st May 2013
http://www.canon.co.uk/springcashback/Total Sterling delivered £499
£499 converted to Euro €573. Exchange rate is very good right now.
You will have to pay the full price now – and wait a month for the refund. In 3 years time you would still sell this lens for €450
I did this recently for the winter promo for the 100mm Macro from Park cameras & just got my refund for £80 the other day.
be careful on Amazon not to buy form their marketplace – .ie a partner, reseller etc. Look at the promo T&C”s
If you can get it for €670 in Ireland from a genuine retailer – you will get €100 cashback. Its €799 in Conns!
