That cloud of ash seems to be giving us some very ususal sunsets at the moment.
Rgds,
Dave.miki gParticipantHi Dave.
I’m really impressed with this shot & wouldn’t change a thing. Need I say more? :D :D Well doneDaveMurdochParticipantflynnyParticipantLovely shot,
I might be tempted to tone down the suns reflection a tad,
and maybe a little work on the horizon.shutterbugParticipantWould agree with Flynny, lovely mood to the shot but tone it down a tad it might
get rid of the “ring” around the sun, lovely composition!b318ispParticipantLuimneachParticipantA cracker!!
Did it require much Post Production or were you using filters when shooting?
shphotoMemberclimberhuntParticipantThanks all for the positive comments.
I did a bit of work on the horizon already, but stopped short of straightening it, as it was a very wide angle shot. Would ye suggest making it perfectly straight? I suppose it’d be less distracting then. I’m not sure what’s typically done on shots like these.
Also, I’ll do a bit of work on the sun, and it’s reflection in the water a bit and see how it looks.I was using a 1000x 10-stop filter, and there’s very little done to the colours. I was very excited at what I was seeing on the back of the camera that evening. If i did slide up the saturation even a little, it looked overdone, so I left it as it was.
Thanks all,
Dave.Madra RuaParticipantphillipMemberDougLParticipantThis is a really excellent shot! I love the composition, and the rocks and waves are really stunning.
I do think the sun and its reflection are distracting. I don’t know what to tell you to try to fix it as I don’t really have any experience with sunset shots. Also, I would definitely fix the barrel distortion causing the horizon to curve. I think you can do that with the distort filter in Photoshop. Also, the upper-right corner seems to have some really noticeable viginetting. I’m not sure if that was intentional, or a lens artifact, but I would correct it. These are all minor quibbles though…sorry, I’m a perfectionist!

SeaviewParticipantstreetshooterMemberThomas GeeMemberYea the horizon is a bit iffy but the rocks and the water are just spot on
I am a sucker for water in a shot.
Where are these rocks?
