Waking Thoughts | New Camera

Thanks all for the replies and thoughts really very much appreciated…
I have my heart set on a Rolleiflex, it just seems like the perfect choice for me, Martin’s post has confirmed a lot of what I was thinking.
Think I’ll have a budget of somewhere between £450 – £600Martin – did you buy your’s on eBay?
Was getting sidetracked with thoughts of a Hassie for a while there too, but Martin & Eddie have helped me out on that point too. Thank you :)
Very good information on this thread, thanks to all for taking the time to comment.
Joe – I’d be very interested in testing / reviewing for you… Sounds like a very interesting project you have going there, well done!

damien.murphyParticipantJB, sometimes I think you are the Mr K. (of voigtlander rangefinder fame) of Ireland! :)
damien.murphyParticipantSeems like you have your mind made up, SInead. The Rolleiflexes truly are lovely cameras, and the only thing I would say is just make sure you are happy with the weight. I believe your standard ‘flex weighs in at about 1200g, and a ‘cord at about 800g, which was a factor for me in the past.
Re: the different models available, I have found this site very good, in helping me navigate through the Rollei line: http://www.rolleiclub.com/cameras/tlr/info/index.shtml” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
jb7ParticipantThanks everyone, will let you know where there’s something to see-
That Mr.K reference is surely pushing it a bit, Damien,
I’d be far more comfortable with something a bit more realistic- Fred Flintstone springs to mind…Or maybe his son, Bam Bam…
damien.murphyParticipantjessthespringerParticipantGreat link Damien… have just made another cup of tea. Don’t think I’ll get any work done today at all!!
Now Joseph, you’re being modest… *rolls eyes*
MartinParticipantMr 7: Id be interested in trying out a camera for you
Sinead: Yes I bought mine on ebay from a guy in Scotland
See link below for a price guide:

http://www.antiquecameras.net/rolleiflexbuyingtip.html” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; You already know this but i’ll repeat… If buying from ebay buy from someone ideally with near 100% feedback and from someone who has posted allot of clear pictures of the actual camera for sale.
Be patient and get the right one, make sure the person has a returns policy and dont be afraid to return it if your not happy.
These cameras are old, allot of them have been sitting in the back of a press for 20 years. Some might need a service straight away which could cost 100euro so no harm asking the buyer does it need a service. A well looked after Rollieflex has a distinct sound when the shutter fires and when the winder is being advanced with no film in it.
Note: You dont normaly attach a Rolleiflex to a tripod directly (you can but its not recommended as you could bend the door) You need to buy a “Rolleifix”, this sits between the camera and tripods quick release plate. You dont need to get it straight away but if you plan to use a tripod with it factor in another 30 euro at some stage…
Best of luck
