Walk About in Dublin
-
Never2Old2LearnParticipant
2 Images from some shots taken while on a walk about in Dublin yesterday, mainly to put my new Sigma 17-70 through some test shots and get to know it’s strengths or weakness.
Accepted as the symbol of Dublin, the Ha’penny Bridge (offically Wellington Bridge after the ‘Iron Duke’) was opened in 1816. Cast at Coalbrookdale in Shropshire in England, the bridge acquired its unofficial monniker from the toll paid to cross the river – one old half penny. The bridge was the only pedestrian bridge on the Liffey until the new Millenium bridge further up was opened in 2000.
The second is a photo of the Replica of the Famine Ship “Jeanie Johnston” with the CiTi Bank building in the background, “contrasting images”.
The Jeanie Johnston is a remarkable replica of the original ship which was built in Quebec in 1847 and carried Irish emigrants from County Kerry, Ireland to the United States and Canada during the years of the Irish potato famine. An international team of young people, linking Ireland North and South, the US, Canada and many other countries, built the replica under the supervision of experienced shipwrights. Never2Old2LearnParticipantThanks Rob for comments. Have looked at the link to daves site, yes very similiar have to admit , I’m sure there’s
many shots of the same bridge on the www.wirepicParticipantA couple of nice shots. And you’ve hit upon one dilemma – it’s very hard to take a shot of the ha’penny bridge that hasn’t been done already. Still a good shot. Nice light, nice sky and well exposed.
In the second shot it’s just a pity that the masts and rigging seem to get lost in the background of the building.
shutterbugParticipantI dont think I have ever seen the Halfpenny Bridge looking so nice, the colours
and the yellow building reflected in the water and the BLUE sky really nice.Never2Old2LearnParticipantThanks Fergus and Jenny for comments on Photos. As said , many images of Ha’penny taken.
Hope my attempt does justice to the scene, a nice clear sunny day, not too harsh sunshine.5faytheParticipantHi Eddie,
I really like the image of the Ha’penny Bridge with the lovely
colourful reflection of the building in the water.I imagine getting a really good photograph of the Jeanie Johnston replica
ship would be difficult where it is located.
As has been said the building isn’t really the ideal backdrop.Cheers.
John.
