Walkaround Lens

    Folks,

I’ve been considering changing my walkaround lens for a while now. I have a Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 DG, etc but I have an 80-200mm Tokina which beats the band quality wise so I was considering the Tokina AT-X 287 AF Pro 28-70mm f/2.8. Reviews are mixed but given that I have 2 Tokinas already with second-to-none quality I feel like taking the plunge. There’s nothing wrong with the Sigma…herself wants it once I merely mentioned the prospect of changing. I’m also looking at the Tokina AT-X PRO F&R ASPH 20-35mm F2.8. These are both full frame lenses so a crop factor of 1.5 needs to be taken into account.

So, what’s your advice on this, or other recommended lenses? Bare in mind I don’t have a Canon or Nikon so it would have to be a third party lens.

Have you considered the Tamron 28-75. I have one as my walkabout lens and the quality and am very happy with the quality of the shots (cant blame the tools for everything). I would say the build quality isn’t particularly brilliant, but for £200 you can’t complain.

Thanks for the advice Peter. Reluctantly I said I’d have a look at Tamron as my head was only thinking Tokina but I had a look at reviews and found a few Sigma v Tokina v Tamron lens reviews. The Tamron generally comes in as the best with the Tokina taking up the rear. I had a look at the 17-50mm which would suit me better for my needs so I’d say this will be my route.
