Walking shoes

Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a good pair of walking shoes which have a hard wearing sole for normal walking, but are also very grippy on wet rocks. As I understand it, for the best grip on wet rocks you need a very soft sole, but these soles don’t last long when used as a general walking shoe.
I suppose I am looking for some sort of hybrid, but it is difficult to see through the manufacturers jargon.

SteveRohan boots – great for walking and smart enough for casual wear – and they last a long time.
I use Berghaus explorer boots, they are great for hill walking and are totally waterproof. They are very light and are also OK for casual wear. I’ve only had them a few months so I don’t know how long they will last but Berghaus boots and gear usually is top quality.

I have a pair of Timberland shoes that I love. Great for everyday use, they have breathing soles, are very comfy and they are usable in the mountains for short walks, too. They have survived a year, which is almost a record in my case.
On rocky terrain, off the track I would suggest you to wear a hard leather hiking boot, nothing else can protect your ankle and toes.I use the Merrell Chameleon II… the same ones that Bear Grylls wears.
We’re both Born Survivors too… facing all sorts of challenges… Bear does it in the Great Outdoors… I do it on the Internet.
But before you make you choice… maybe adopt the PI Camera Buyers Guide #1 rule… “go to the shop, try ’em on on, see how they feel on your feet” etc.

I would say Ecco boots are worth a try also.
Had them a few years back and found them very good.I bought a pair of brasher boots and they are great for walking and very comfy
alought they do let you down on slippy rocks and are kinda expensive at 100 quid stg
I also used ex german para boots which are great and can be got for around 30 quid and these a a DM type soleCathal

I wrote some reviews on walking shoes recently (I work in a running shop) but I can’t seem to find it.
Mostly, I prefer walking/trail shoes to boots, especially at this time of year.
I’ve had a few pair of Salomon shoes, XA Pro 3D Ultra and XA Comp, the XA Pro is about £10 more expensive,
but it offers a bit more stability, maybe just a tad more narrow in fit than the XA Comp.There is also a Gore-Tex version of the XA 3D, the XA Pro 3D Ultra GTX, which is completely waterproof.
I wore a pair all winter and absolutely loved them.Inov8 would be another really good brand, the FlyRoc and the Terroc, would be the two models I’d suggest.
Brooks Cascadia are really good too, as re the Adrenaline ASR.
I’m using a pair of Mizuno Wave Harrier trail shoes at the moment, really like them, really grippy and very comfortable,
yellow though, which might not be every one’s cup of tea.If I had to pick just one of those, I’d pick the Salomon XA Pro 3D Ultra.
Been to the top of a few mountains in mine, including, Ben Nevis. I had boots with me that day too, but changed
just before we set off, didn’t regret that decision.Are you in the north? I work in Up & Running in Newry, and there is also a store in Belfast.

Just to throw another into the pot, I have a pair of Raichle, they are really good.

I use Pamir hiking boots. Got them about 7 years ago. The most comfortable thing ever and after loads of milage they are still perfect.
At the other end of the market, hard to beat good old Lidl at 24.99! Comfortable, strong,
stable, hard wearing and makes economic sense in these hard times….haha dont look at the
