Lol.. thanks for the heads up Hugh – I’m currently in the drying out clinic for recovering camera-equipment-acquisition fiends, and think the worst is behind me :)
Would love to know how you’re getting on with your own M6 – my theme for the year is 1 camera, 1 lens, 1 year..

speaking of which, Robbie, do you think we waited enough?
with me and you, that order can take ages before being ready :D :D :D(King and Earl of procrastination…)
Oh crap!! Yeah..forgot about that. We should really get moving on that. Maybe tomorrow yeah?
Seriously though Gigi, I’m heading up to see Martin the Guru on Sunday, with a view to actually having the faintest clue what I’m dealing with with this development lark.
Then armed with my newfound knowledge and your very helpful list of chemicals and stuff I should be ready to add my half to the order..
Then we can think about it some more…and maybe get the order in..sometime…soon..
Sound good to you?
GizzoParticipantMaybe tomorrow.
LOL
meanwhile I will try the bag of D67 I found…. quite old but hey, better than nothing.

Damien … I just recently acquired the exact same lens and camera. My advice to you is to ban yourself from that Rangefinder forum that Fintan pointed you towards. You will very quickly convince yourself that you need a 35mm lens to complement the 50mm. Or maybe something even wider like a 21mm. And an extra body would be handy so you can shoot colour and b&w at the same time. And something else … It is truly a financial black hole that the unwary can fall into and never return from …
Now lads don’t fight over it but there’s a beauty of a 35mm Summicron just been advertised at a nice price.
What viewfinders have you guys got?
damien.murphyParticipantNot for me, but if anyone is considering purchasing, the seller is the same person I’ve purchased my 50mm Summicron last week and should have some feedback once I receive my 50mm early next week,

I’m getting on pretty well. I kind of ending up with a very different kit to what I set out to get. I wanted a rangefinder with Aperture Priority exposure and a wide angle lens like a 35mm. But, I got a good deal on the M6 with the 50mm so just went for it. I just bought a 35mm CV Color Skopar for about 200 quid which is sitting down in the post office waiting for me to pick up so I have plugged that gap … In terms of getting something with AE, I might try and pick up a second-hand Bessa body some time down the line …
I love the feel and size of the camera. I’ve been used to bulky MF cameras for a few years so it’s very different. The shutter is quite a bit louder than I expected it to be. First roll of film I shot through it was colour film (again the first time I had done any colour in years) – I got negatives from Gunn’s, went home, scanned a few and they looked like shit. Figured it was probably because my scanner is not up to doing a good job on 35mm so shot another roll and got Gunn’s to put them onto a CD for me. Results are great – fantastic colour, really sharp. You can see four of them (the colour ones) on my Flickr …

Only did a little B&W so far and haven’t really had a chance to print. I’ve decided that fiddling about with 35mm negatives, making contact sheets and so on, is not for me. I might have to get a film scanner now …. jaysus.
Oh, and I’d love to get the 35mm Summicron but I have resisted the urge
damien.murphyParticipantThe Bessa’s are quite nice alright, Hugh. It was one of those I originally had my mind set on, and then got a good deal on an M6.
Unfortunately, the M6 is sitting here at the moment, with a forlorn look, as I’m waiting for a lens (the summicron) to arrive in the post.. hopefully Monday :)
I’m raring to put some film through it, so much so I’ve dusted off my FM2 this weekend as I’ve been deterimined to shoot some film no matter what! :)
The shutter surprised me too, I was expecting it to be a little quieter, but still its a lot quieter than my FM2.
I hear you on the lens front, I would love a 35, but my proposed theme for the year is to make do with one camera, and one lens, so as to focus more on composition and pre-visualisation
..I am finding that hard though, as this film stuff is addictive, and I’ve been sorely tempted by a Holga, with 35mm panorama adapter (a very poor man’s Xpan). I guess I may have to make an exception for ‘toy’ cameras & pinhole.
Re: the film stuff, developing and printing et al, I’m quite looking forward to this myself. Digital has been very convenient for me, and I’m looking forward to getting back to basics,
Damien
damien.murphyParticipantFintan – missed your earlier comment, I have the 0.72 viewfinder
I can also confirm I have received my own 50mm Summicron this morning, and would not hesitate to buy from the seller (yanidel on rangefinderforum.com) again.
..now if only I can stave off my impatience to get out and shoot! Oh well.. only several more hours :)

EXTRA – VISION !
Well done, I have been there last year with a very convienient tool called PAYPAL.
Bought a lot of stuff last year but nothing as exotic as a Leica!
Well done and enjoy!
damien.murphyParticipantLol Alan, I will.. just need to pray and appease the rain-gods now, so I can actually get outside and do some shooting now!
