Warrenpoint Beach

Saturday morning in Warrenpoint. These are the best of a bad bunch so any pointers will be gratefully received.
thedarkroomParticipantThe top one has too much beach in the foreground and would benefit if the composition had less of the foreground and more of the background. Even a straightforward crop, removing the beach up to the waterline so that this line runs almost to the bottom right corner of the frame, turning the shot in to a panoramic would improve the composition. The sky could be darkened slightly to reduce the ‘hot spot’ on the horizon. Otherwise, a nice shot and worth getting enlarged.
With the second shot, I would reduce the amount of beach again slightly but not too much so that it runs across the frame fully. Apart from that, everything else is great. Nice composition, nice tonal range and would look well enlarged and up on the wall at home.David
jb7ParticipantYes, second looks great-
though you’re teasing me with just that little bit of Greenore on the right…BMParticipantI like them both and there is more potential there.
Have a look at http://www.petercox.ie/tutorials/contrast_mask.php
Gary McParlandParticipantI have always found it a very difficult place to get a decent shot so well done for that. Of the two i definitely prefer the second but i agree about a slight crop off the bottom and maybe even crop greenore out from the right as well.

GarydigitalboyParticipantThanks for your comments.
I tried a simple crop on the first on and I think it really improved it. I’ll have to have a go at that video tutorial tonight.DakyParticipantReally nice shots. Love the dramatic lighting. I agree with the crops. I would take the beack out of both, although when I scroll the beach out on the first shot I find the pole on the left cuts the image into two sections. Would love to see these printed large.
aoluainParticipant#2 is very nice lovely light.
The rays on the left are just leading too much out of the frame and as has
been mentioned are dissapointing as I want to see more of that beautiful light
on the left.
