Water Drop Collisions

It’s a fscinating subject that has the same attraction as crystal glass does to some. I particularly like 3 & 4 which I assume are achieved by a quick drop rate?

Thanks Alan, and thats it exactly, 2 drops, when the first hits the water it bounces back up and if timed right it collides with the second drop coming down behind it. You can see what happens a drop as it hits water here in slow motion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJ-AX1G0SmY
Fantastic timing Mick. Fantastic shots especially the umbrella / mushroom effect. Can’t wait for the rain to come so I can try this out.

Thanks John, currently use a Canon 400D, 430 EX II Speedlite, 18-55mm IS, Tripod, home made polystyrene desktop studio type thing, laboratory pipettes (eye droppers), Goodall’s Food Colouring, A Desk Lamp and my laundry basket. This picture shows you how I have it set up. (Sometimes I use the lamp on and sometimes these are shot in complete darkness using just the flash to freeze the shot.
Great idea with the polystyrene , always found it hard to keep the eyedropper in one place and get accuracy every time.

Promised a few of mine Mick, no colouring used, just coloured paper behind the glass. Water was in an upside down wine glass.
Very nice John, I love the colour in the first one and the lighting is spot on in all of them. I know what you mean about food colouring, it can be messy so a cheap UV filter is a must.
If anyone wants those polystyrene boards just let me know, we have them in work, Canon use them in their packaging, we throw them out everyday.
