ProinsiasParticipant
Can anybody recommend excellent waterproof leggings for me to sit out in a wet field and not realise that after 20 minutes that same leggings aren’t actually water proof? Where could I buy same?
thanks..
proinsiasIOPParticipantProinsias, try Rory?s Fishing Tackle shop in Temple Bar. Their number is 01 677 2351,
Dave
stasberMemberYou could try the fishing tackle shop on Pana or on Kryls Quay (if I’m right – next to Lavitts Quay, adjacent to corner of Cornmarket St).
ossie13Participantor Millets in the Blanchardstown Centre or any Outdoor Adventure shop, a few in town…………….
Cheers Steve
SeaviewParticipantI wouldn’t recommend sitting on the ground for twenty minutes with your waterproofs on as they haven’t invented a pair that breaths and will keep you dry yet. I use Berghuas Goretex XCR waterproofs for hill walking and photography and they keep me dry for most of the day and they are very light. As for sitting on the ground I bought a cheap sleeping mat 15 euro, and cut a section off big enough to cover my butt and I can sit on the ground and stay dry and warm for ages, that’s my best tip for everyone.
Dave.
Ps. sorry for the long post.
ProinsiasParticipantFintanParticipantI walk to work in rain/snow and use a fairly decent pair of The North Face pants but I wouldn’t sit down on the ground in them for any length of time. Take a black plastic sack in your camera bag for such adventures.
stcstcMemberI bought a 6*4 piece of plastic sheet that is used for putting over your cases on your roofrack, it cost less than a tenner and folds down to nothing
nice thing is if you want to say be on your front shooting animals etc its big enough for that too
MarkKeymasterpaulParticipantI generally sit on the wet/damp ground for 40 mins each half, during rugby games. :D
I got mine in Outdoor Adventures. They’re warm and keep me dry. I’ve yet to have a problem with them.

Ditto.
I’ve a pair of these also – I think they are brilliant as you dont sweat if the sun comes out. I usually kneel down and sit on my boots so I dont need anythign extra, but a small pad as Dave suggests has the huge advantage of some insulation.I also use a fishing stool a lot. Way more steady than a 3 legged stool, and does not sink into the mud.

ProinsiasParticipantThanks again to everyone who replied. So Saturday (yesterday) was my first opportunity to go shopping for these. I decided on The Berghaus Goretex XCR’s and that I was going to get those
I did the rounds in Cork, and the results are as follows..
Murrays on Patrick St: Didn’t do them.
Great Outdoors: Out of Stock.
Mahers Parnell PLace: Berghaus stockist: Paclite Shell ?200 (there was other berghaus ones there for ?150 & ?300 – they also told me that xcr’s not available anymore and didn’t have a price)and finally I went to…
Union Chandlery on Penrose wharf: Berghaus stockist- limited sizes & had a sale on. So I purchased the paclite shell type for ?200 – 20% = ?160Hope this helps if you are considering a purchase.
And it does pay to shop around. I suppose I was just around the hour mark sourcing, pricing and eventually purchasing, and saved ?40 being the difference between Mahers and Union Chandlery. :DBMParticipant1. Go to Great Outdoors or similar shop and get some quality/value waterproof trousers – as previous suggestions. Jackson’s in Belfast have a great sale rail. Try them on-line.
2. Get a piece of carrymat material (1 foot by 2.5 feet) to sit on next time. When finished, roll it up and carry it under your arm/strap it to your rucksack!
(If you can’t get some carrymat material, go to a motor factor and see if they have something similar – that mechanics use for lying on the ground.)
Carrymat material si also great for kneeling at a tripod.
