Taken as the mist lifted-
I’d be quite interested to hear any comments about this one-This is one version,
but its not finished yet,
it needs a bit more work-j
Brian_CParticipanthey j it’s upside down, you might wanna rotate 180 degrees
But seriously, it’s a strange one and kinda makes me uneasy and have to take a second look. To be honest it don’t do much to float my boat, sorry. I could see it working as part of a city exhibition, but not so much on it’s own.
jb7ParticipantThanks for the comment Brian, appreciate it-
So you noticed the deliberate mistake?
its difficult to see at this scale,
but there may be an extra layer of interest in the reflections;
you can see the muddy bottom of the canal through them, especially the tree trunks,
and even some of the debris through the sky reflection-Still, uneasy is good,
if thats how it makes you feel,
then I would count that as a result :)Although its maybe not the usual type of subject posted in the Landscape section,
I think this is the correct section for it,
its not really Architecture,
or street,
but I would be interested to hear the views of any ‘scapers
who might think that its been placed in the wrong forum-many thanks-
j
Brian_CParticipantJB, funny you should mention if this fits into landscape. Last night we were discussing what defines a landscape, is it tree’s, river, hills, lake….. The like of Charlie Waite reckons there should be no man made objects in a Landscape photo, other say man made objects should not break the horizon. Personally, if a little bit of a grey area, I’d put this under street, but I think it’s personal choice really.
But I think it opens a good debate about what’s landscape and not.
jb7ParticipantThanks again Brian-
Perhaps I was too tired when I posted last night-
I think its mostly to do with interpretation of sub-genres-
I think ‘Cityscape’ is what it is,
and that is probably a subset of ‘Landscape’I see ‘Street’ as dealing with some sort of activity in an urban setting,
whether or not people are present in the picture-
for example, graffitti on a building might qualify,
because its the manifestation of the activity that’s being represented.‘Architecture’ should aim to represent the work of the architect, or designer, or engineer-
that is, a picture posted in the Architecture section should aim to describe or interpret or critique
the Ideas developed by the Architect.
There is room for the photographer to make a picture in a beautiful way,
but if the photographer’s art is seen to be the most important element of the picture,
then its possibly not Architectural Photography in the strictest sense. With the exception of people who photograph around the coast,
and on the higher mountains,
there is not much in landscape that doesn’t show the hand of man somewhere.
The natural landscape almost certainly is not natural-
rather it has been shaped over the millennia into what it is today. All that being said,
if anyone feels like moving this somewhere else,
please feel free-j
