We Shall Meet In A Place Where There Is No Darkness

Sorry, my post there was put up before our PM Sinead.
Just for the record: There was a post earlier this week about Badger Baiting by another member. It was meant as a satire based on another post. A lot of people mis-interpreted the post as being for real. I wasn’t involved in the post; I was out all day with my son at the hospital/zoo. When I got home I caught the tail end of the thread where the author basically admitted it was a joke and that was all going a bit pear shaped. I copped that it was a joke and put up a comment which stated something along the lines of “Is this Comedy Ireland and something else to-do with what I thought the satire was actually based on”. I in no way condoned anything to do with Badger Baiting. In fact, up until the point that I figured out the joke I was actually quite shocked.
As for LaGwardia, we’ll we’ve shared a couple of PMs and I hope now we understand each other. I publically apologise for the Beck comment.
LaGwardiaParticipantMick451Participant“But your point about it being like looking at someone elses family photographs is valid, I guess I have been a tad(ok, alot) gung ho about defending it since it is my shot & it is me in it,as well as someone I care about. So obviosuly I have an attachment to it “
Naturally, and I’m sure I’d be equally defensive if someone had a go at one of my family photos.
“Ugh, look at that kid’s head…that haircut constitutes child abuse!!”But if all it is is a ‘family’ photo it has very little weight beyond what you and those close to you attach to it.
That’s mainly why I’m ambivelant about it, it says nothing to me other than it’s two people faffing about.
Though I can imagine it was a bit of a giggle getting mashed and setting things up.What your circumstances are have little or no relevance to the image you create.
Either the image connects with people or you have to explain it.Still, nice tats.
LaGwardiaParticipantcheers! they look way better in the pic than in real life, alot more contrasting.
yeah it was a good night in retrospect. Had planned something completely different before the gin monster kidnapped us.
although it was really cramped and uncomfortable after a while…
but the sink provided a nice ice bucket…That photo, the unmerciful hangover and sprained anke that followed served as the end for alot of things but more importantly the beginning of other things so i’m glad I have that as a memory instead of just a support bandage and empty packet of Nurofen….
for those that have taken the time to critique it…heres the second shot….(ok ill hammer the nails in myself! )
go easy….i’m in good spirits (and tequila)….
GMarkKeymasterFolks.
Keep this thread civil!!!. You know the rules and if you don’t at this stage there are no excuses.
Critique the photograph, thats it. If you have no constructive critique to give then stay out of the thread.I’m going to keep an eye on this thread and if I feel it necessary as a last resort I will lock it.
Thanks
ThorstenMemberInteresting thread. For what it’s worth, I think comments made in conjunction with the posting of an image are just as fair game for critique as the image itself, in so far as they form part of the image. I often find myself asking why people write the things they do when posting their images and cannot help but feel that in many cases they do this in order to justify or excuse a poor image. I know I’m guilty of doing this from time to time myself! But it then becomes very difficult to critique the image on it’s own merits. One of the reasons I rarely post any images here anymore is that I’m simply not happy with the work that I’m producing and I’d rather post nothing than post an image I’m unhappy with and make some excuse for it. I’m not suggesting that was the intention here (making excuses) but an outsider looking in could be forgiven for thinking this.
One of the questions this raises for me is should an image be posted on it’s own, without words, or is it better to have background information on an image? Sometimes the mere addition of a title can change the entire image. I guess this is really a topic for another tthread, so I’ll leave it at that for now.
plainoldmeMemberWell Greg, given my absence over the past few days I’m glad you could be honest about the content! I think it’s a good photo with a good concept. Although, in relation to my earlier critique, I prefer the second shot. At least you can see one expression in the image, rather than none in the first.
keep doing what you do, I like it! 8)jessthespringerParticipantSorry Mark,
I feel responsible for that last little outburst. Will keep feet on the ground (and out of my mouth) from now on.
Sinead.
