These are two of my first macro/close up shots and is my first post here. Any comments or criticism welcomed.
poppy in the rain
SteveDParticipantJoolsveer, I think the first shot could be improved a lot with some alterations to the perspective in Photoshop. I think that with this type of shot you really need to shoot head-on to the surface, anything else makes it look a little untidy. Also, crop the black area off the right hand side.
I like your composition, with the metal bracket in the bottom corner, and the web seeming to spread out from that point. Next time, try spraying the web with water, and the droplets will add an extra dimension to the image.
joolsveerParticipantThanks Steve for your tips. I will try recropping the side of the bolt. Do you reckon that it is OK to spray water on the web? Will it not damage it and put the spider out of business? So far I have shied away from incapacitating my macro subjects hoping that I don’t get stung or bitten.

That web looked pretty old so that is why I suggested it. A gentle spray is just like some rain falling on the web. It is a technique often recommended in photography magazines.
Noely FParticipantAs long as ya dont use a power washer It’ll be fine  I like the lock shot, maybe tone down the highlights on the silver a bit.
joolsveerParticipantThanks a lot for the advice. I will have another go in PS and see if I can work some improvements that way.
