    Hi Folks,

I have been asked a few time to photograph a wedding but have always passed them on. I have shot one as a second photographer with 10 of my images making it into the album.

Now i have been asked again and Im lost how to price it fairly, I dont want to over charge or do myself an injustice either.

The wedding is a civil ceremony and meal all held in the one location.
I am to start at the brides mother house and shoot to the speeches and first dance.
Also a wedding album and 2 parent books also.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

so you have always passed on images to a working full-time professional … so what’s different now?

Do you want to do the job yourself ?
do you want to pass it on ?
do you want commission if you pass it on ?
Are you prepared to get sued if you do not do the job properly and upto the standard you promised ?
    Do you have insurance ?
Do you have all the necessary equipment ?
Do you know how to post process the images ?
Do you have post processing software ?
Do you know the budget of the Bride/Groom ?

wedding photography is a very saturated area of photography (loads of people think of it as an easy source of money) – are you looking to pack in your current job and set up as a professional or make an extra few thousand euro a year by doing wedding photography on the side ?

The difference now is im fed up of passing work and money off to others for no commission. So why not do it myself

Im not looking to get sued so i have told the 2 clients exactly what i have told you that i assisted in one wedding and its not my main area.
    i dont have insurance
    I have a full studio at my home,, canon 50d sigma 17 to 70 2.8, canon 50mm 1.8, sigma 70 to 300, canon 580 ex ii
I have have 4 years processing experience.. i use adobe master collection cs 5, lightroom, and capture one, professional portraiture, and color efix complete edition

they havent given me a budget

hello edwin as someone who is not about to start wedding photography i don’t know a lot about the hole pricing thing but this might help this is only a guide http://www.weddingsonline.ie/discussion/viewtopic.php?p=702223&sid=92d83de2ecf6994b6289031ca45f7cbc” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; that said the couple have already done some looking around that is for sure so i bet that they have a ball park price .if i where you i would sit down and show the couple explain to them what your style of photography is , what you can offer them , work out a shoot list, a shoot schedule ,then factor in all your cost’s but do be fair to the couple.if your style of wedding photography cost’s eg. €4500 then that is what you charge.if your style of wedding photography cost €650 again that is what you charge . wedding photography is a very saturated area of photography right now so you need to compete with a lot of people like what pcphoto has mentioned there are lots of horror stories out there you will find some on this site ,so sorry if i went on a little but it’s not all about what you charge they already have an idea about that its all about the bride and groom having the best possible memories of the biggest day in there live’s so with that said please take all of what pcphoto has said and explain every thing to the couple and if you are the lucky photographer to get the booking make it the best work you have ever done because you have on average 150 potential client’s there as well on the big day . p.s. there is no set price for a wedding photographer there is a starting price ,photographer’s spend a lot of money on there profession that is what cost’s everyone will have a different price p.s. dont forget to give the wee taxman a little as well . hope this helps …..
    my kindest regards
