hi gang, yet again need your help and advice, doing my wife’s nieces wedding in 3 weeks, its a freebie as her mum passed away suddenly recently also its my first wedding as don’t do them, they are very laid back and want casual candid shots mostly, of course I’ll have to take few group family ones to keep them all happy.
Only thing is I recently had knee replacement done so will only be able to carry 1 camera with me my 5DmkII as a crutch will be in the other!!!!
    :(
Need advice on lens to take, I’ve the 24-70 2.8 and the 70-200 2.8 also a nifty 50 but 1.8, just concerned about taking a wide angle shots of groups any suggestions please? wedding is in Dingle 2 weeks next Saturday so slightly under pressure!
is there a very reasonable wide angle lens anyone would recommend , any help greatly appreciated

Hi Jon – the 24-70 on the 5D will be fine for the family shots – just move back a bit.
Try build the groups in triangles – rather then 15 people in one straight line.

If you really had to buy, borrow or rent – It’s the Canon 17-40mm f/4L you’ll be asking for….but that would only be for the ‘everyone in’ group shot.
You could use the 24-70 from a balcony – and get them as the bride/groom are leaving.

Inside the church – remember ISO is your friend!

Not a wedding shooter, but imagine the 24-70 and a flash would do for the entire wedding. 24mm on the wide end fits in an awful lot, especially if you can take a few steps back, and imagine something wider would only be necessary if you’re dealing with either exceptionally large groups or quite tight spaces. Perhaps take a backup camera and lens if you have it though, should anything happen to your primary camera and lens on the day.

    Good luck with everything :)
