News reports today say that civil ceremonies gone up from 6% in 1996 to 23% in 2006. Thats a substantial decline i would think

Not necessarily a decline in photography though, civil ceremonies can now be on location. I have covered 2 in the last 11 months with another 2 booked in the next 3 months..

I’ve done a few weddings, but it’s not what I’m looking to do. I dont even mention weddings on my site. I’ve had a few enquiries via word of mouth or whatever, but when I quote, they skoot off. If I do quote for a wedding, it’s got 3 zeros, and I’ve had folks come back with “well, I can get it for 500, can you beat that?”. I’m tempted to reply sure, which half of the wedding do you want photographed? but I just drop it.

it’s one of the hard areas where newcomers do have to do a few cheepies to get into the business, but it seems there are so manny newcomers, that a couple will always find a newcomer who’s work they like, or personallity they like.

I’d not like to be relying on it as my only income – my hat is off to the guys who are doing this well.

    Merv.
