From the point of view of accommadation would it not be a better idea to leave this until poss. September, when the kiddies are back at school
Having checked on B&B the prices in August are top whack!
Your’r thoughts please!MarkKeymasterfyi, just updated the thread title to reflect where and that there is a trip being organised.
ossie13ParticipantPD_BARBSParticipantMight be a struggle for me, the 8 hour drive will be a problem, going to check alternatives and let you know as soon as possible.
JMac-2006Participanti’ll keep eye on thread heading away last two weeks august so might not be able to make it
Harry ReidParticipantPlease add me to the list of “possibles” for this trip. Can’t be definite until nearer the date so will keep an eye on developments. Someone mentioned “no birds at Rosscarbery at this time of year”. I don’t agree! Depending on tides, etc., the variety of birds is significant. I stopped there two weekends ago: swans (lots) lesser egrets, (at least six) herons, various kinds of ducks, oyster catchers, plus many others I can’t easily recall just now. And the Celtic Cross (Ross?) Hotel, which overlooks the estuary, is good for food. In other words, I’d like to see Roscarbery included on the Trip if possible but, of course, will fall in with the wishes of the majority! Mike Brown is renowned for his wildlife photography and has a Gallery in nearby Clonakilty if anyone is interested.
Go Well.ZoundzMemberI may have trouble getting to Glengarriff, as currently we have no transport and rely on my mum, who although she enjoys her own photography, has already said she’s not willing to go that far! Can’t reeeeeally blame her! Still – we are moving to Rosscarbery ourselves at the beginning of July, and will have a much bigger house, so we can, if necessary put some people up? Not too many as I think my Landlord (and my OH) would have a fit! However, I can probably provide a bed for two people (or two couples – I only have double beds) – or 3 at a push – as I have a pull out double bed/sofa – though it’s not very comfy!
If anyone wants to take me up on this offer let me know soon – my only request in response is that whoever stays, someone has to give us a lift! :D We’re happy to share petrol from Ross and back, and of course, staying in Ross has its benefits as it’s gorgeous, and fantastic for wildlife! :D

Hi Laura, as mentioned transport is not a problem, there will be several cars available (Mark’s and mine at least)
ZoundzMemberThanks for the kind offer! :) We may take you up on that. :D
My offer of beds (regardless of where we’re going) still stands though – I’m always happy to put people up, as long as they don’t mind the pets (mind you, the rats are in the shed outside and the dog can be shut away if neccessary).

BMParticipantI’ll try to make this trip – work/family permitting.
I’ll probably fly from Belfast, so a lift would be great.
Anybody else planning to fly (from Belfast)? – maybe enough to hire a car?

Then we can all decide.Cheers!
