No sweat Peter – hopefully we’ll see you you then – I am doing some hostel checking at the moment – will post when I hear back.
TompixBandonMemberI’m interested!
I’m also based in Bandon (West Cork) so if I can give any help to folks, please ask!
One issue about the venue may be public transport. There are very frequent buses as far as Bandon from Cork city. Then the bus route divides like a fork — one route going to Bantry and Glengarriffe via Dunmanway and Bantry, the other goes to Clonakilty and follows the Coast Road to Rosscarbery and Skibbereen and beyond. At Skibbereen, that route branches again to Baltimore and to Schull/Goleen. The buses go more or less alternately between the two routes. On balance, I think there are more options for visitors on the southern route – especially should the weather be unfavourable. My sense is that there are also more choices of accommodation – especially this year. These include places in Glandore, Skibbereen and Baltimore.
May I ask what may seem a daft question? And forgive my ignorance: I have never been on a photographic meet-up! What might be an outline plan for such a gathering? That would also inform choices about locations etc.
Thanks.
snaphappyMemberI would prob be in for this trip too guys will keep an eye on this thread..

Hi Tom, here’s the info re this outing:

OK folks, to make a firm suggestion, the following:
Daylong visit to the Glengarriff Woods Nature Reserve, http://www.npws.ie/en/NatureReserves/Cork/GlengarriffWood/
to include a boat trip to Garnish island http://www.cork-guide.ie/garnish.htm (20mins duration).Destination is about 100min drive from Cork city, and both attractions are just 1k outside the town.
August 22 is the date, and we should meet in the car park of the reserve (maps later) at 10am
So we need to do the following:
1. Confirm interest for date and destination.
2. If transport needed, please state from where (there will be plenty of seats available)
3. Make some suggestions as to the “apres photo” activities.ALL THOSE IN FAVOUR SAY AYE!! :D
These outings are pretty in-formal – an agreed meeting point, and some focal point for the finish (hostel/pub etc.)
The transport thing is never a problem – we’ll organise it closer to the time, there are usually enough cars.I am doing some checking into the accomodation side of things, for those who need it.
I have put your name on the interested list :D
munsterman28ParticipantHi there
Just seeing this now. By that time we should be starting to see some big whale activity back in west cork. Couple of whalewatching boats out of union hall. Possibility of fin whales (and largest animal one earth), munke whales, common dolphin and more. No guarrantees but if you get the blubber it can be an amazing trip with amazing photo opps……………..then again as with all these thinks you can draw a blank
kenhParticipantFolks, I have located a recommended hostel in Skibbereen which has availability for both Fri Aug 21 and Sat Aug 22:
http://www.russaghmillhostel.com/
Prices are:
private family rooms sleeping 4 in double & set of bunks at 20euro per person or 60 euro for family with children.
double rooms 25 euro p.p sharing
dor beds at 15 euros eaPLEASE POST OR PM ME QUICKLY WITH YOUR REQUIREMENTS!
This is an ideal base from which we can decide our destinations for both days (Sat and Sun). It is also very close to the town
centre for Sat night :D .Plus, if we stay closer to Skib it will be a shorter drive for the daytrippers! As I said we decide our final destinations later.
NEED REPLIES FAST!
Thanks
PaddysnapperParticipantSounds good Ken….. But sorry you will have to count me out of this one. O.H. has other plans for that weekend.

about 1 mile I think, so that’s about right. A quick taxi ride or a pleasant walk – this is luxury compared to some places we have been :D
BMParticipantPhotoeyeMemberNot sure yet if i will be staying over night, I will make alternative arrangements.
AedanCParticipantI’m still on the possibles list but I won’t be staying in the hostel even if I can make it as I have a bed near there.
Cheers,
Aedan
Harry ReidParticipantI’ll be arranging my own accommodation because I’m unsure of final travel arrangements.
Go Well.
Harry Reid.
