What about a "Landscape Locations" thread, sorted

Just a thought, locations with potential listed by county, and allowing that some locations would be kept “secret!!!”, or maybe this has been done before? Of course this is me trying to plan the weekend shoot!
We all have our usual haunts, I guess. For me its between counties Wexford/Wicklow/Carlow but I like to travel where I know there would be good possibilities for a few shots. The biggest problem I find is driving by somewhere/thing interesting and trying to find somewhere to park safely. Anyway I’m just opening the discussion here and maybe we could start a dedicated thread, if there’s enough interest?irishshaguaParticipantI like this idea. I certainly would like to pick a few peoples brains about good places to shoot around me. aybe ask Mark if there is enough interest.
cathaldParticipantSounds good except for
Andy will have us all in caves
Martin will have us all climbing mountains
Sinead will have us all looking for trees
BM will have us all rockpool divingLOL
Ken and Mark will have us in a pub quiz
and Rob will have us driving down the road shooting as we gobut i still think its a good idea

  some of them sound good….
nfl-fanParticipantAgreed.. would be useful.
PS. wexsnap.. where the heck is shoot worthy in Carlow? I thought it was one, big, flat, insignificant county (landscape photography wise that is).

Hell of a statement there John. We could take a trip to Carlow and I’d show you several potential areas and they’re only the ones visible from the main road. Carlow doesn’t have a coast line – at least this side of global warming but there are many opportunities. If I’m not mistaken I’ve a photograph of you shooting in that very same said county.
As for a catalogue of areas for landscape photography – I’m not sure about that one. Every hill, flat, lake, river, housing estate, dump has potential for a landscape photographer who puts his mind to it. A list of the common tourist attractions may be useful to a tourist and maybe to some here but I wouldn’t use it as reliance on a good landscape photograph.
Have to go now…I can hear the hounds approaching..
nfl-fanParticipantCrikey Wonka.. I didn’t think driving outside a 10 mile radius would be your cup of tea. What photo do you have of me from Carlow? Is that the Mount Leinster stuff?
I do take the odd spin to Carlow for shopping purposes… I like the town… it’s pretty user friendly. I’m just not aware of any stand-out landscape locations. Now that’s probably down to my own ignorance (as I didn’t even know St. Helen’s Bay existed until wexkel brought us down and now I can’t be kept out of the place).
wexsnapMemberHi nfl, Thats the whole idea of a location guide, here’s just two of my Carlow discoveries:

Only on shopping trips   . Yeah, shooting on Mt Leinster, overlooking Myshall, Co. Carlow  . You haven’t seen it yet.

Point taken Wexsnap. I didn’t know about the first one – the second could be anywhere…but that’s the point, isn’t it?
nfl-fanParticipantI reckon a thread would do no harm… but it’d have to be some sort of administered thread kept clean and to the point otherwise it’d go on for 20 pages with the usual chit-chat:, ‘can anyone tell me how to get to such a place’, ‘I went to that place last week and it was crap’ etc.
Any believe me… I am a chit-chatter myself so don’t think I’m pointing fingers outwardly only!
Brian_CParticipantWhen ppl offer up their photo’s to be C&C’d more often than not, they say where it was taken. If you like a location, make a note of it. You’ll soon pick up who lives in your area/part of the country, so just keep watch for those posters. There’s also other photography forums and websites that Irish ppl use. Why not look at these.
Finding new and interesting locations is also about looking at maps trying to figure if it’ll suit, watching the weather forecast and of course trial and error. And, it gets up out in the open.
Alan RossiterParticipantThere is another option which is to post your shots on the PI flickr page. You can tag your images with the location on a map for all to see.
