What are the basics for a start?

adrianmatthewsParticipant
Hi,
My boss asked me to take some photos of the product we produce ans wants me to do it on an ongoing basis,
I half in jest told him I would need a few lights, stands, backdrops etc etc.He said ok, thing is I wouldn’t have a clue really on what I would need and what, where and how much.
Can anyone recommend something reasonably priced, don’t want to take the p**s…
Cheers
Adrian
BarkerPhotographicParticipantHi Adrian, it depends a bit on what you are likely to photograph (size especialy) and what camera you are using (does it have manual settings and does it have a hot-shoe). If you are using a “compact” camera that does not have a Hot Shoe then “continous lihgts” (no flash) will be good, something like: this set: http://www.barkerphotographic.ie/supercoolite5.htm .
If you have an SLR type camera then studio flash heads will be a better bet, you could start with something like this Elinchrom D-Lite 2 (or 4 kit): http://www.barkerphotographic.ie/flash-heads-and-kits.htm . Backdrops etc. will depend on the size of the products you are photographing (tins of beans or bicycles?). We at Barker Photographic have it all in stock!adrianmatthewsParticipantHi Paddy,
I have an DSLR, 300D looking to upgrade to the 500d when I have enough pocket money.
I will be shooting product shots, from CD size 120 x 120 right through to floor standing display units, circa 1.5m x .5M x 1m.I was thinking of a light tent for the smaller CD size shots, and a white backdrop with a few lamps reflectors etc for the larger product shots.
As said before, I would appreciate some more info.
If you want to PM me a quote fire ahead.
Cheers
AdrianBarkerPhotographicParticipantHi Adrain, I will send you a quote as requested, but for anyone else who is interested, it will be along these lines:
1 x Elinchrom D-Lte 4 Kit (C/w with Stands, softboxes & Leads, cases etc.)
1 x 80cm Pop up product tent
1 x Background stand set
1 x 9′ roll of Super White background paper (No harm to go wider than you think you need)
Options:
Pop up reversible (or 5 in 1) reflector
Skyport Universal Radio trigger kit (to avoid trailing wires – nice for your application, essential when working with people)
I’m not sure if the 300d has a PC socket for external falsh or not? If not you will also need a Hotshoe-PC adaptor if you are not going for the Skyport trigger.
