    Paul, two things:

    1. I use DELL at both work and play and I find them very good. The LCD flat panel, if switching from a CRT, will make a huge difference especially when working with digital images

    2. Brace yourself for a MAC vs. PC debate

I can recommend the Dell as well, it’s what I use and I’m happy with it. 24″ is a good display, too.

Mac vs. PC: final word – use whichever you prefer. Just comes down to that, basically.

    Hi Paul, and welcome.

That should be a fine choice. Just make sure you get loads of memory if you’re planning on running Photoshop, Lightroom etc, and especially if you’re going to be running Vista, in which I presume you won’t have the choice. They’re complete hogs on system resources, I’d suggest at least 2Gb. Also get a reasonably decent graphics card (avoid the onboard Intel ones). By decent I don’t necessarily mean expensive but aim for something with 256Mb onboard memory.

    Hey man,

I use a Mac but use whatever ya want.

Definitely agree about the RAM, at least 2GB’s. Plenty of it.

The Dell with that monitor would be a fine choice.

Hi Paul, suggest that unless you are going to use your PC for gaming, there is much better value in the Dell Inspiron!

€849 will get you an Inspiron to include a 20″ monitor and 2 speakers – the XPS has a higher grade processor just for gaming…

If you buy a PC with Vista have the option of using your memory stick as RAM whcih is very handy as you can buy an 8G stick for about £50apx, just stick it into a rear usb and away you go.

Guys, armed with your excellent advice, the results of my labours :D are as follows:

System would be a Dell Inspiron 530 with Dual Core 2.67GHz, 4096GB RAM, 320 GB HDD, 256MB G/Card, for €779

    combined with a

Viewsonic 19″ monitor (with S/PVA panel) for €272,

    Total package is €1051.

It seems good, what do you think?

Dont buy Dell Head over to komplett and buy the parts your self and Do a Self build.

http://www.komplett.ie/k/cart.aspx €1039 check out that list. and Dell tec support is Brutal ive often been on the phone for over a hour to be told to press a few buttons, self build is the best way to go.

i spent 1500 2 days ago for a mate for a gaming rig so if your into your gaming a 256 meg card wont get you far the one i picked out wont get far either but if your not a gamer its perfect
