What do you DSLR users have as a pocket camera?

I got a powershot A640 in the summer. It was a bit of a dilemma as to what level to level to pitch at, and I had to work out exactly why I was buying it. My photographic instinct was to go for a G series but I finally decided it would probably be overkill for the reason’s I wanted the camera – family snapshots, christmas, birthdays etc…. So I dropped down a level in price. I’m quite impressed…. It’s a neat enough camera although the flash can be a little harsh.
irishshaguaParticipantlahinch_lassParticipantI”m relying on my camera phone as my P&S ..
Sony ericsson K800i, 3.2MP flash does the job for spur of the moment stuff, and I always have it on me as it’s my phone as well.Whenever my phone is due to upgrading the camera spec will be the determining factor.
Ed.ParticipantCanon Ixus 75, very happy with it, Canon compacts are streets ahead of Nikon ones imo
derrynid daveParticipantCanon Powershot A80 with various dints in the casing and still working beautifully.
Like to upgrade to one of the G9’s though. Can’t stand just using an LCD screen and got to have an eyepiece.
Wonder how others feel about that. Tried some shots using a point and shoot with just an LCD screen and drove me round the bend in bright sunlight.PeteWMemberFairly happy with my phone Sony K800i as a back up to the D70s although I’d be interested to see any pictures from the K850i
rc53MemberLeoParticipantCormacParticipantD200 for the big stuff – Nikon S7C for snaps.
Upgraded to the S7C for the wireless function and guess what – I have not used that feature once.
Can’t say I’m all that delighted with the S7c – it’s only really happy outdoors and I can’t seem to get it stay on -1stop to avoid blowing out the highlights.
Will go for something with a hot shoe next time (fathers’ day perhaps!)
thedarkroomParticipantCanon really seems to steal the show when it comes to pocket cameras. Well I won’t disappoint either. Always with a G9 on my person, it’s great. Also have an iXus 860is. Another cracker but without Raw. It has a great wider than normal lens, very pocketable and produces excellent results. Noise is better on the iXus at higher ISO ratings as I find that the G9 is only OK above 400ASA.
Recommend both cameras, but I still love my D200 for everything else.Dominic 7ParticipantRicoh GX100 24-72mm (Equivelant) if you like wide angle,
Not recommended above ISO 100 though!!!Dominic
