What Laptop do you use??
-
mikeytoomoParticipant
Hi,
I am on the market for a new Laptop. My old desktop computer I am told is too old to run photoshop and is gone really slow.
So my question is ” What kind of Laptop do you use for photo editing and for general computer use?”
All advice and past experiences welcome.
Thanks Michael O MearaGrahamRParticipantOne of the best things I have done to my laptop was to get a Solid State Drive, best thing since sliced bread! No over heating, quick start-up and real fast previews in Lightroom.

mikeytoomoParticipantThanks Luisspellcast, I am definatly considering a Mac Book Pro. My brother has the Mac Book Air and it is quite nice. Its just that it cost so much. I probly could save up for the Mac Book Pro 13inch eventually. But is there any cheaper alternative. I would be using it for photo editing eg Photoshop and other general computer use like internet and also for collage use.
ThanksmikeytoomoParticipantThanks Graham for your reply,
Yes I know my brothers Mac Book Air Uses the solid state drive and seems very nice its very quite and also keeps relatively cool when in use. What modle is your laptop.

ThanksIts just a Dell, I couldn’t afford to upgrade to a newer one so just upgraded the hard-drive to give it a year or two extra life! :)
mikeytoomoParticipantmikeytoomoParticipantGraham what exact model is it?
Luisspellcast to be honest my budget is maxed out and a 1100. Do you think I would get by with the Mac Book Pro 13inch or would the 15inch be a must.

Its a Dell Inspiron 1545, its an old model bought early 2009, what really annoys me about it is the shiny screen! :)
‘InspironTM1545 (N0254506)
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26 GHz, 1066 MHz FSB, 3 MB L2 cache), Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium SP1 – English’The SSD is ‘160GB Intel 320 Series 2.5-inch SATA SSD Solid State Disk’ from MemoryC.ie
I have only bought Dell’s through the years and there has always been problems with them, beware that their warranty only covers hardware and NOT software so if any BSOD’s you are on your own! But with the price of them being cheap I believe they are worth the punt if you are computer savvy…. or lucky! :P

PiotrWMemberAbout SSD drives they are speed demons but with limited life time (write cycles) so if you do lot photographs is worth to read about them.
mikeytoomoParticipantHi again,
I am after finding a 2nd hand MacBook 7,1 for sale. Released Mid 2010, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 13 inch display, 2.4 Ghz and 2GB of Ram which I would be hoping to upgrade to 4GB Ram. Do you think this will be able for Medium Photoshop editing. If I could get this instead of getting a brand new Mac Book Pro which would set me back 1200EURO as opposed to 500EURO for the 2nd hand MacBook I would be able to maybe upgrade my lens collection instead. I am not really sure what to do.
All advice appreciated,
Thanks Mike O Meara
