Hi all i really need your help, im covering a mixed martial arts event next month and dont know what lense to use, i just got a canon 400d. the arena will have big lights over the ring like a boxing event and i will be right beside the ring, leaning on it. what would be the best lense for this in terms of lighting and speed, on a budget to so the cheaper the better
I’m not sure if one focal length is going to cover it-
But a standard lens, a 50mm, might be good for this one on your camera-
Not too expensive either-
It might be a good opportunity to expose manually too, if the lighting is even-
it might be easy to overexpose highlights under that kinda rig-
A flash should not be allowed – distract the fighters. But, a good fast lens is what you need. Price is going to be your issue. You need something that is at least f/2.8.
Maybe a 50mm f/1.4 or 50mm f/1.8. You may even need a bit of distance, so an 85mm f/1.8. Further to that, you would be looking for a 70-200mm f/2.8 L.
