What to expect

Hi all,
I am going to join the Drogheda Camera Club this Thursday and I haven’t a clue what to expect. I am actually quite nervous going, assuming that everyone is going to be fantastic photographers and no one at the beginner stage that I am at. What happens at these clubs?

I was in the same boat a few months ago, with the Derry Camera club. Nothing to worry about, you will find that there are people of all levels at these clubs and they are great places to learn, meet up with other people and probably more importantly to get out on trips with the club (although I seemed to miss all the ones with the Derry club.)
No doubt you will enjoy and learn loads. But I also meet up with some of the folks on here now and again and find the people on this forum extremely helpful.

I rang the guy over the club tonight and he said that there are 10 new members starting on Thursday so thats a bit of a relief. :D
I agree with you about this forum, I have learnt so much off here already its unbelievable. Everything from DOF to handholding camera at specific speeds. Its a great site.

Hiya Janine, I’m up here in Drog-land too, and have been putting off going to my first photog club meeting for 2 years now, percisely for the reason that you mentioned. I have no idea what to expect either, do I bring prints? My camera? Is there a secret handshake? :lol:
Hopefully I can swallow my nerves down and show up this week. Nice to know I won’t be the only newbie in the door though.

When I rang the guy he said this Thursday just bring yourself. I think its just an introduction to new term and telling us what will be happening from now till Christmas. Do you know where it is? Its up in Millmount at 8.15pm.

Well… how did you get on? I’m sure that the first meeting back after summer break is probably slow enough.
It was just an introduction but Des Clinton put on a show of his pictures. My God his stuff is brilliant, he has so many awards and won so many medals. They have 10 new members and are going to start running a beginners course in October so I will join that as well. Glad I went.
