What’s a life worth?
-
BMParticipant
There was theme simialr to JB’s reference in a book I read years ago “Nature’s End” – that nature will always survive/revive, not necessarily with humans as the dominant species.
It’s as if nature is trying out different experiemnts at who should continue as the dominant species. Dinosaurs were one experiement, perhaps we are the next.
I’m going back on the drink …
aoluainParticipantWhile it is easy for us to pass off the fact that various species of beautiful
animals are getting nearer and nearer to extinction and we go on our daily
routine of consuming the planets natural resources, WE are actually
the biggest single cause.miki gParticipantThe human body, by its very design is predatory. Almost all land predators have binocular vision ie cats, dogs, birds of prey etc. This is so that they can judge how far away their prey is. We humans also have teeth designed for meat eating. But, We also have teeth designed for eating fruit and veg. A balanced diet has been the answer to our survival. You can actually starve by eating only one food source every day ie rabbit. Your body will not receive all the vitamins and minerals it needs and even though your stomach could be full, you still starve. Killing for fun is what p*sses me off. But then again, humans are by far the dumbest animal in the animal kingdom.
PeteTheBlokeMemberI’m pretty much with JB7 – we don’t really matter. The snow leopard
doesn’t matter. Ultimately (like it or lump it) life doesn’t matter. It’s just
a cold, impersonal fact. Humans have only been here a few years and it
doesn’t really look like we’re fitting in very well. The world will just spit
us out and carry on.justaguyParticipantThe ultimate solution would be to eat ourselves.
I alreadey started years ago with my fingernails. but you can eat whats coming out of your nose to. And the great thing is, it keeps coming. Its like a farm up there.PeteTheBlokeMemberEnergy cannot be created or destroyed. Same for matter.
We could synthesise food though – there’s a whole branch of science
taking shape on that front.GizzoParticipantfood will require energy. being either artificial synthesis or natural production.
the point being, is that renewable? so far, we past the point of sustanaibility, therefore we’re looking in other directions.
expecially on a whole-world scenario.how much is a life worth?
mmmmm this question has many-a different answers. in which scenario?
biologically speaking, a life is wasted if does not contribute towards the final goal being the surviving of that specie.
and even if death happens, well it’s probably a direct consequence of genes poorly evolved which were little use in the construction of a specie being able to survive in a given environment.then there are several more point of view, of course.
aoluainParticipantJust watched ‘supersize me’ for the first time last night . . .

nfl-fanParticipantI wos just down the Pet Shop getting some bird seed n’ stuff.
This week’s bargain:
“Buy a Hamster Cage and get a Free Hamster”
I just tried mapping that scenario back to us humans… and ended up nodding my head from left to right and back again.

Surely a free hamster wouldn’t need a cage?
That’s a conversation I’d like to have heard…

 Quote of the month.
nfl-fanParticipant5faytheParticipantI have always spent a lot of time thinking about things like this.
Sometimes, like BM, my head hurts.I know people who never think about things like this at all.
Their heads probably never hurt. What’s a life worth?
Depends on who’s doing the estimate.John.
