What’s your great location in Wicklow?
-
IOPParticipant
David Noton (http://www.davidnoton.com), he of great landscape photos and columnist with Practical Photograpy, has asked me to tie down some dusk and dawn venues in Wicklow for our Landscape course next month.
With Newtownmountkennedy as the centre of a circle, I was wondering if anyone here would have some suggestions?
Dave
Mr.HParticipantOk I’ll start you off (I’ll also put in links where I can in a vane attempt to get more website hits.)
I will leave out the obvious Glendalough.
Lough Tay will be of interest http://www.garyhawkinsphoto.com/photo_853731.html – you can also continue on up the sally gap and along the Milatary Road for fairly wild/mooland sort of stuff. There is a great waterfall on the military road about 10 mins above glendalough although access may be an issue.
Crone Wood (predominantly a pine forest) may be of interest, as would powerscourt waterfall.
If you are struggling with weather then the devils glen may also be of interest for ‘rushing river’ shots. Its very well sheltered but you may need wellies for good shots.
Also don’t discount the beaches – Greystones (…I know it’s hardly wild) has some interesting stuff for ‘rocks and sea’ type shots if the tide is right.

Also Brittas Bay would be a more traditional ‘dunes and grass’ style beach.

I’ll keep an eye on this for more ideas myself as I need to find more locations …. John Griffin would be a great source of info.
Hope this helps
Gary
IOPParticipantThanks Gary, some lovely shots there. I hadn’t thought of Greystones, I’ll see what David thinks (I’ve asked him to keep an eye on this thread),

Noely FParticipantI like Knocksink meself, old woodland and beautiful mountain streams.
A short walk from Enniskerry village :wink:randomwayMemberThere is a nice place (Kevin’s Way, towards Hollywood) above Glendalough for dusk/dawn shooting. My other prime location is in the Crone Forest (You go downwards – not towards Powerscourt – from the parking lot on the Wicklow Way until you find a river and then you can use your imagination… a lot of oaks, beeches and that kinda trees over there, a clean little river and birds, and mammals in great number…
The other place that can be very nice at sunrise is the Great Sugarloaf..
MartinParticipantThe walk from Pier Gates down to Lough Dan is really nice also. The house at the end appeared in Fr Ted i think. Lough Tay can be seen from this walk also. Really nice took many the slide down there over the years

Madra RuaParticipantFor shoots at dawn and dusk it’ll help to be on high ground in Wicklow.
The walk up to Djouce from near the Pier Gates above Lough Tay give spectacular views.
The path above Deer Park (Powerscourt Waterfall) from Crone might also be good for morning shots when the light shines into the valley.PixelleMemberUpper and Lower Lough Bray are worth a look.
Also a bit of rugged coast at Wicklow Lighthouse, might need permission though.
