texMemberI think your second shot is the better of the two mainly because there is light on the ruin. However I do agree that the tree should be more off centre and that your horizon could do with straightening up. If you cropped off some of the RHS the tree would move off centre and the photo could be leveled up in PS.
sirvadMemberrazor sharp images. wud like to see them in colour as imo, wheat looks better in its golden colour.
JMac-2006Participantrazor sharp indeed, jumps off the screen. never seem to be able to get BW looking like his myself, well done!
for the second image i’d be tempted to take another direction and crop the left out as sky is dull there and the ruin isn’t adding much. could look good square crop with the tree on left of frame.
eccles1990Participanthi guys sorry for the late reply been busy designing wedding invites as I am a graphic designer for say
the horizon lines are straight i used a level to make sure its just the lay of the land falling offthank you for all the comments i really appreciate them, and i think you may be right about the tree off centre
also if people use macs + light room i could try get my pre sets for black and white images to help get your images sharp and moody

PixelleMember#4, maybe a lower viewpoint with less corn and more sky? Just a suggestion, and I prefer the colour version.
IsabellaParticipanti like 4 in color but definitely 3 in BW, colors over saturated on my monitor but the BWs look good so i agree with your initial decision.
SteveDParticipantThe B&W versions are fantastic, and far superior to the colour versions IMO.
markclehaneParticipantOuch! What have you done to the colour versions? I’m sorry but they both look garish and overprocessed to me anyway. Also, for shooting at ISO100, there seems to be an awful lot of noise in the sky, especially the 1st one.
On a positive note – apart from agreeing with the comments about composition, I do like the mono versions.
MarksndipoMemberI wouldn’t think of shooting a wheat field and then turning it into a mono..it loses its nice golden colour then, doesn’t it? But I have to agree to some here about the colour versions, something is done to them, too much perhaps?
Overall, I like the compositions and I think you’re on to something :)RASMITH32MemberWhat wheat has that makes it good for B&W (IMO) is fantastic contrast elements though I hear where Snipdo is coming from. The supersaturated colour versions dont work for me. I would leave the B&W foreground as they are and look to bring in the B&W sky but not so heavily processed. Enough to make it sit down in the shot but avoid the blown highlights and breakup of the sky. Maybe just the original converted to standard B&W with some dodging and buring so that it works with the high contrast wheat fields
