Where do I get my D****d D70 Sensor cleaned professionally?
-
PuckpicsMember
I’m Belfast based and sick and tired of scaping sensor dust off images taken with my D70. I have invested heavily in the Nikon system and hence have little choice to continue until Nikon provide a sensor dust solution.
Where do I get the camera cleaned in the meantime, or who is willing to show me how to do it?
Regards,
An extremely unhappy photographer who has had another trip wasted by sensor dirt….
CianMcLiamParticipantI’ve been using the eclipse method now for almost two years and have done it who knows how many times. It’s very easy once you make sure to use only 1 drop on each side of the swab. Sometimes I have to do it twice to get everything off but I’ve no hesitation doing it over and again. I don’t know if the sensor vibration method will eliminate the need to clean the sensor every once in a while, I somehow doubt it, but if I’m careful where I change lenses and keep lenses free of dust and dirt by blowing them with canned air (and hoovering camera bag every few weeks) the problem is drastically reduced.
seanmcfotoMemberI feel your pain. I’ve a brand new 30D full of dirt.

Do you know anywhere on line or in Ireland that sells this? My two bodies are in bad need of cleaning also. Was in Belfast today and i could not find any shops that sell swabs etc for sensor cleaning. Will be in Dublin on Friday also if any of the shops there sell it
Cheers

Puckpics,
You get a number of little swabs and a small bottle of fluid with the starter kits, if you’re careful they will do for a while, I only had to do mine three times last year. You just pop the mirror up, open one of the swabs packets, put two drops on the tip of the swab and run it gently over the sensor once in one direction (along the bottom edge say), then turn the swab over and go again in the opposite direction along the top edge. Repeat with a new swab if you have to. Bob’s your uncle.

vtecMemberi had a similar problem with my D80 and after looking around i couldnt find anywhere that would do it., i did it myself in the end.,
you have to go into the menu on the camera, go to “setup menu”, the one with a spanner symbol, scroll down until you see “mirror lock-up”, select this and then when you press the shutter button on the camera the mirror will stay up leaving the sensor exposed at the back of the camera looking in through the front, you should be able to see the dirt on it if its bad enough to spoil your photos,. I used carl zeiss optics wipes that have a solution on them and you can get them in most decent camera shops. you could even use a microfibre glasses cleaning cloth aslong as its clean and dry, i dont know if glasses cleaning fluid would cause any damage to the sensor so id just use it dry., good luck with it, i know how annoying it can be.,.lol
