Where do you get your camera batteries from?

I need to get a couple of new batteries for my Canon 400D.
I checked out ebay and can two batteries from the UK for around £8 + £8 delivery, however they are not genuine Canon batteries. I then looked at elara.ie and they wanted €66 for one battery  Is this the going rate for a genuine Canon camera battery? Where do you get your batteries from? I have had the non-genuine ones before, but felt they didn’t hold their charge for as long as the proper Canon one that came with my camera.
Cheers,
scubamelbrendancullenParticipantHi – I use 3rd party batteries in in my 7d – no issues.
Get the hightest ‘mAh’ you can afford – and the charge will remain longer. Here’s a 1500mAh for approx a fiver delivered….so grab 3 or 4 or them.

FrankCParticipant€66 is around the going rate for the genuine article. You could also try Gunns in Wexford st. – they often have very competitive prices.
Otherwise, I find http://www.7dayshop.com/catalog/default.php?cPath=777 very reliable for all things battery – and other odds & ends as well. Their own-brand batteries are usually very good.
thommacParticipantI’be found the third party batteries from 7day shop to be grand. I got one for a 30d about 3-4 years ago and it still works grand.
scubamelMemberThanks for the links. Will get on and order some new batteries. Can’t believe ow much of a premium you pay for a canon branded battery!
np72ParticipantI got 2 Eos-compatible batteries through Amazon for £10.99 recently, and with them, if your order is more than £25, postage is free. These batteries were listed as being from some other seller, but stored and posted by Amazon, and if I remember rightly, they came fully charged too.
johnnycorcoranParticipantI got mine from ebay.. “Uniross rechargeable” Im using those for years now! Last week I got a new fresh one and using the old one as a wireless mouse, and wireless Wacom.
aitch3ParticipantThe cheapest compatible batteries, in the past from Taiwan or Hong Kong but now more like China, are also the nastiest and won’t be anywhere as good. If you buy carefully and only buy branded items, you can still get a decent life for around half of what you’d pay for a camera manufacturer battery. The advice about getting a high MaH is good too.
damien.murphyParticipantOEM batteries usually quite expensive. Whether the premium is justified is up to you, as you’ll find plenty of people who argue in favour of both OEM batteries, and third party batteries.
Personally, I’ve used third party batteries in the past, but recently opted for an OEM Nikon battery instead, as I’m shooting a paying gig and preferred to err on the side of caution, seeing as I don’t have a backup camera at present. Price was also another factor, in the past OEM batteries were pretty expensive, but this time around I picked up an original and new Nikon battery on ebay for around €25/ €30.
