Where should I buy my Canon 400D?
-
collyParticipant
OK I’ve decided to buy the Canon EOS 400D. I’m going on a holiday to Barcelona on the 26th so I want it before then.
The cheapest I can find it online is here: http://www.digitalwonderworld.de/product_info.php/products_id/9009
Price says Prepayment: ?728 – but also says “Price ?749” – I’m not sure what that means…In the shops I found it on Jessops at the end of grafton street for ?799. A little more expensive but at least I can go in and pick itup straigth away, and its easy to bring it back etc.
Does anyone know of anywhere e3lse I can buy this cheaper? Which would you do? Would Jessops throw in a memory card Perhaps?
ThankspaulmoranParticipantI’ve seen it in Dixons for ?799 also, though I couldn’t recommend buying from them, I had a terrible experience with them a few years ago – they wouldn’t replace a keyboard on a PC. I don’t know anywhere cheaper and have been keeping an eye out since I bought one myself recently.
ValentiaMemberI just came across this. I hadn’t heard of Digitalwonderworld. I had heard of NYCameras. Be wary. Have a read: http://photo.net/neighbor/view-one?neighbor_to_neighbor_id=206328
positronMemberNot sure if the ‘canon price leveling’ has made any difference, but when I was looking (Aug/Sep), it was cheaper to buy in US. If its still the case, asking someone to pick up one from US or HK etc would be the cheapest / best value. If its not an option, may be you could order on bhphotovideo to a US address and ask them to mail it from there to you?
FintanParticipantjoe_elwayParticipantDigitalwonderworld are OK. I’ve bought from them (a while back) and a buddy recently bought a 400D from them. I think the lower price is if you buy and pay straight away but I’m not sure.
The only place in NY I’d buy from is B&H but you’re going to get stung for VAT when it hits this shore.
paulmoranParticipantDigital Rev in Hong Kong have it for ?568 (ex postage I think), but you will have to pay vat. They are excellent and ship promptly. Just don’t go for the UPS option. http://www.digitalrev.com they are also on ebay under user digitalrev.
davenewtParticipantRemember seeing it in Harvey Norman (IIRC) for 749 or 799 before Christmas, might be worth you giving them a buzz.
Take it easy,

Joe, theres no haggling with B&H but Photo Village [.com] are very close and they usually work out cheaper when paying cash..

Whats the deal with the vat/duty? They add 17.5% import tax for the UK, but will there be any more here? Still works out at ?737 all in which is pretty good though!

Have you tried ringing Irish camera shops for a price ?
That’s not as daft as it might have sounded a month ago :) European prices have harmonised and I know that Gunns on Wexford street are doing some great deals at the moment. US and HK prices are still way way lower though.
clawlessParticipantTry AC-Foto in Germany, good value & fantastic customer service & delivery, got my 30D from them & no problems with them at all.

I havent used them myself but somebody I know has and say they are great. Not bad prices either.400D body only: 449 GBP
collyParticipantGuys, Amazingly Argos hvae the 400d for ?770 in their new catalogue! It’s hardly worth getting it over from Hong Kong for such a small savaing…
