Sorry for being such a grade A beginner in these things:

Where is the best place in Dublin to get film developed?

So far i would think Gunns are good but inconsistent, Pixels so-so, Lalloos in Fizzyboro surprisingly good and the place on Sth Gt Georges St (Dublin Camera Centre?) just ok……

Also, is there anywhere to go for cheap/good scanning?

I’m goanna stick my neck on the block here Liam, you are probably goanna kill me for saying this but you sound like someone destined to do their own processing. It’s not that difficult at all and you dont need a darkroom.

If you really fancy a change, why not post them to http://www.hettysdarkroom.com or http://www.ilfordphoto.com [Ignore the UK only bit, its International now]

But I’d be thinking, changing bag, tank and reels …………

    Fintan,

baby on the way, small house……its not gonna happen unfortuntely.

Thanks anyway, would love to be able to, and thanks for the websites. (by the way, i think your implicit answer is; “you’ll never be fully happy with film developed in a shop”)

No the bottom line of my post was more the fact that you know the difference between good and bad processing, its not something that everyone sees. For the record I do think Gunns run a great lab.

While if have a darkroom of my own, I used to often develop my films sitting on top of the washing machine and you know actually making babies bottles is more complex than developing your films…..

    Honestly

Try Photolabs in Lennox st, top of Camdem St heading for the canal, they are a professional lab and are known for good quality.

With practice, you’ll be mixing baby’s formula and your fixer at the same time.

For colour print film, I think Gunns are top notch and the best value around. Dev and scan a 35mm roll for €10.

For B&W, I’ve tried Gunns, Photolabs and a few others and always got dust & hairs in the scans so I bought a scanner and started doing it myself. The difference in quality was well worth it and it’s kinda fun.
