    Hi,
I’m going mad looking for a good deal on a new 20 or 30d eos canon camera.
I would prefer to buy from somewhere i’d have a bit of comeback with warrantys etc.
nervous to buy from ebay in case I have no comeback & or it never arrives.
I am going cross eyed looking for this camera…

Any suggestions/Stories about where you bought first DSLR etc.
This is my first big DSLR camera and any help would be appreciated.

Remember, if you are registered for VAT, you can save the VAT if dealing with UK companies.

Righteo….what I’m doing is buying mine with B+H in the States (http://www.bhphotovideo.com) to which a 30D is costing me (with today’s euro conversion)…

    ?895

with very little P+P, cos I’m getting it sent to my brother who’s coming over at Xmas. Or I could go with the aforementioned Robert White (http://www.robertwhite.co.uk) and it’s gonna cost me (body only for all these)…

B+H is great if you know someone in the US that you can send the stuff too. Just get them to bring it over if they’re coming soon! Or you go over (great excuse for a holiday!).
I’ve bought from Ebay, a shop called DigitalRev…the stuff comes from HongKong, but it’s cheaper than anything in Ireland or UK. If you know someone in the UK, look out for their deals where they pay the import VAT. You pay, but then send them the invoice and they pay you back. They are good to deal with.

    HI,
    thanks for your help.
Unfortunatly I am not in a position to travel to the States & know noyone there, or in the UK.
So i will have to either buy in Dublin or online.
Mark you bought from ebay, what would happen if there was anything wrong with camera, was there a guarantee etc??

I better get back online to keep looking…
    Any more info appreciated…

    Thanks again

I have bought a fair bit of gear from ffordes in Scotland – https://secure.ffordes.com/index.htm

Probably not the cheapest, but very professional & helpful to deal with.

Clawless….you can buy stuff from B+H in New York online. Just put your list together…calculate the costs and then see how much P+P is and import tax. You might figure out when you add it all up, you’ll probably still make savings then from dealing in the UK.

    Clawless,

Ebay – digitalrev: they give one year warrantys I do believe. You might just ask them first to clarify. I’ve never had any problems. They have an office in the UK anyway, so you don’t have to deal with Hong Kong if something goes wrong. All the Canon kit I’ve bought has come with the standard Canon warranty also.
BHPhoto – as JohnnyMcMillan said, you could buy your stuff from BH and have it shipped to Ireland. You will get a shock when Customs ring you and ask to pay ??? before you get it delivered. But whenever I’ve done it, it’s still worked out cheaper than buying it anywhere in Ireland.
Germany – another good place to buy. I know a friend who’s bought from AC Foto, and says they’re good to deal with. I’ve bought from http://www.digiwowo.net/ (formerly New York Camera) and they were good to deal with too. Always responding to emails quickly and no problems with the kit.

Contact the people in Customs and Excise duty on Revenue.ie I’m sure they can let you know the percentage you will have to pay, therefore you can calculate exactly how much it’ll cost.

As of recently (yesterday?) if you buy from europe you now only pay duty for the country of purchase.
