Where to buy?

Hi
Just wondering if any of you have dealt with express cameras.com, they seem way cheaper, is it too good too be true?Site looks secure, or am I being naive…
http://www.expresscameras.com/prodetails.asp?prodid=530630&start=1Rang about customs and was told there was no customs charge if when item was being delivered by courier & i filled in a form with a code (they gave me). She didn’t sound too sure about this though?? Any thoughts.
Is the VAT for cameras standard at 21%.
Apologies for all the ?’s but this is a big purchase for me…Thanks
KPMParticipantDon’t want to be scaremongering here – but the prices do look incredibly low.
A brand new D200 for US$609 – approx EU415 !!
The D200, plus the (much in demand) 18-200 VRII lens, and a load of extras – US$1,609 – EU1,150 !!The D200 usually retails for between EU1,400 and EU1,700 depending on where you look – a price difference of a grand seems too good to be true.
I’m not saying they are chancers, just remember the saying ‘buyer beware’ – especially when you are delaing with a shop so far away. Its not like you can jump on a bus to go and complain !!

JohnnyMcMillanParticipantJust a quick question…if I was to buy stuff from B+H in the States from here (by card of course) but send the equipment to my brother in Canada, would I still have to pay import tax?
clawlessParticipantGOD I’M GLAD I FOUND THIS SITE, TALK ABOUT A BAD RATING…

or is that a silly question?Prices are dearer here, sometimes much dearer, as well as lead times if you’re in a hurry. Supply can be an issue for retailers.
A recent example from me, I was looking for a Tamron 28-75 f2.8 lens. I was initially quoted 500eur in a Cork store with a lead time of ‘about 2 weeks’. The ‘two weeks’ was still given to me after 4 weeks of waiting. Sigma (24-70 f2.8 ) on the other hand, could be in store in ‘a couple of days’ which turned out to be a week. Back to the Tamron story I was asked to shoot a performance, which was 2 weeks away so started pressuring for delivery. A week later no news and I confirmed the price, which had turned into 670eur as the 500 was apparently the UK sterling price. By Wednesday no joy so I got back to my contact in Hong Kong who shipped it out the same day and arrived on Friday morning. All for the princely sum of about 320eur.
The lens is bona fide, has a returns policy and one year international warranty.
My supplier hasn’t let me down yet and most of my kit (Canon) was bought from him. It pays to shop around and to find a channel that suits your needs, and can save you a few bob at the same time.
