Where to buy

Hi,
I’m by no means a pro photographer but I’ve just setup a pet photography business, more as a hobby. Working outside all the time isn’t always an option as I’ve found, due to the weather!
I’m looking to buy a collapsible background (black/white) & mabey one light. Where would you recommend here? Buying online isn’t an option for me.KPMParticipantHi Tracey,
I have a couple of collapsable backgrounds which I bought from DML in Portobello, Dublin 8.
They have their good points and also their bad points.
If you go for a black & white reversible, you can wash the removable sheet, however, if you
go for any other type they cannot be washed, or even ironed. They do come up in creases a
bit and the only way to get rid of the creases, even partially is to use a wallpaper steamer. The heat
from an iron fades the colours.
They are very handy however as they can be thrown into the boot of a car and they take up relatively
little space. If its for pet photography, I would recommend that you go with a standard frame & canvas
backgrounds on the basis that pet hair & dirt could build up, as well as animal smells, and you would
need to be washing them quite regularly. I am looking into getting a set up like this myself, as, despite how
handy and quick to set up the collapsable ones are, they are only about 7 foot wide which does not give you
a large amount of space to play with. Most frames now are fully retractable, and the ones I’m looking at (http://www.karlu.com) also include a handy carry bag.
As far as I know DML do the standard frames & backgrounds (lastolight) as well as a few photography shops in
the city.Regards
Kevin
ThorstenMemberFor lighting you might consider an Interfit INT103 Cool-Lite Fluorescent Daylight Kit and for a background, perhaps consider a DIY job, given the realtively small size of what you need. No idea where to get the Interfit light in your locality as I tend to purchase most of my equipment online (as, I suspect, most people here do). Perhaps DML or Image Supply Systems can supply this, but you’ll pay quite a bit more buying it here in the ROI. Another option would be Calumet in Belfast if you’re prepared to take adrive up there and see what they’ve got (or you could just have them ship it to you, but that’s effectively online buying again!).
TraceyMemberThanks for the replies.
I know almost nothing about what’s available out there so please bear with me.
I need something that is very washable as paws are always mucky. Something I can throw in the back of the car as I don’t do this from a studio.thomasMemberBarkerPhotographicParticipantHi , We at Barker Photographic have a large selection of cloth and paper backdrops, see: http://www.barkerphotographic.ie/studio-equipment.htm .
