    Another one is http://www.cam-ireland.com

If you are vat registered you can register with your vat no and the 16% will be deducted at source from the advertised price and also on selected Canon items you will be able to get the Cash Back offers by Canon which reduces the price still further.

I’ve bought a few bits and pieces from Pixmania and have found them extremely efficient and competitively priced. Their deliveries come from Paris and I haven’t found myself waiting any more than three or four working days on any order I’ve placed. Thumbs up from me so far, although their range might be a little limited.

I bought a flashgun from B&H last may for USD369 and had to pay ?86 customs/excise, overall price was still under european vendors’ price. it is all good for saving couple of euros but you end up as good as with no warranty.

Looks to me like you’ve been seriously overcharged for duty Unal. Last week I spent a frustrating yet fruitful hour on the phone being transferred from department to department until someone was finally able to tell me what duty should actually be paid on photographic equipment. The upshot of that endless phonetime is that I’ve since ordered a new Olympus 50-200mm f/2.8-3.5 from B&H in New York and some Hoya filters, coming to a grand total of $907.15 (including shipping), or ?707.99. The duty to be paid, from the horses mouth, is 6.7%, so my final outlay comes to a very cheap ?755.42. The lens alone, sans filters, would have set me back ?1049 plus shipping costs from Technikdirekt or any other European supplier, so it’s quite a saving.

There are mixed opinions about them on ask about money, but cameras seem to be delivered quickly.
I had cause to ring them today and they were efficient and quick – and polite.

Hi Rob – not trying to worry you or anything, but don’t you have to pay VAT (21%) as well ?

This is one of the reasons I sometimes buy in the EU, as the VAT issue can make a big difference.

Yep, 21% VAT on the combined cost of the value of your purchase, postage, possible insurance AND duty.
I figure you will still save some money over the cost of buying it here though.
I recently bought musical instrument from the US and also spend about an hour trying to figuue out what duty and VAT to pay.

DAMN! Trust me to forget about VAT! Still, I won’t complain. Believe it or not the only reason I can afford to treat myself to a new lens is because of an unexpected refund from the Revenue on last year’s tax return. So I’m basically giving back a few quid out of what they gave me and getting a decent lens into the bargain. So much for booking another weekend away though
