Where to order my camera from online?
-
collyParticipant
So I’m in the market for a Canon 600d. In intend to find a Canon 24-105mm second hand, so I don;t need it with the kit lens but I’ll take it if it’s only a little more just so I have a slightly wider angle.
I’m just not sure where to order it from. The best price is from SimplyElectronics – I have heard the horror stories – but I know others who buy all their gear from them! They are doing a cracking deal on the 600d + 18-55is kit lens for €679 – kind of hard to ignore! Is it worth a punt? I’m not in a huge hurry really so if it takes a while I really don’t mind.
Is there anyone who comes anywhere close in price that is reputable?
ThanksphillipMemberhi colly
i have bought most of my gear from ebay and have had great success, but i also buy from http://www.digitalrev.com/en/index.php
have had no problems with both. Irish retailers are over priced, when you can purchase an item from over seas, taken in shipping cost, tax, import charges its still cheaper, mad!!!phillip
jungleParticipantI bought my 5D mkii from warehouse express, cheapest price I could find on the internet and they have a great reputation. Fast delivery too. http://www.warehouseexpress.com/home/default.aspx” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
markclehaneParticipantUnless you’re a big gambler I don’t think Simply Electronics is worth it. I’ve dealt with Warehouse Express and Park Cameras in London and got very competitive prices plus an excellent service. Park Cameras products can be a few pound more expensive but they can charge less on delivery charges and so end up being cheaper in the long run. Pixmania can be ok sometimes as well.
From what I’ve read about Simply Electronics, chances are you’ll get your stuff eventually but it could take months. And if you look for a refund? Well locals have a hard enough time so could you imagine trying to reclaim you money from Ireland? They seem to have a habit of saying “Item in Stock” but that very often turns out to a little white lie :D Then again… maybe you’ll get lucky. Your money!
ossie13ParticipantHi I dealt with these guys in the UK, great service and reasonable prices

collyParticipantThanks Ossie that’s a great price he has there… However, call me silly but I really want a 600D and not the US branded version :?
Mark I think you are right, SimplyElectronics looks too good to be true, over €100 cheaper than any other store in the UK.
archibaltsParticipantIf I buy anything worth more then 500 euro, I’ll buy in Conns. If cheaper then 500e – digitalrev or simplyelectronics.
Conns warranty and customer service is worth paying extra. I have never heard even one bad review about Conns.brownieParticipantSimply Electronics are scam atrists…lad in the camera club here in Waterford ordered a Sony 700 and lenses off them…luckily paid by credit card….€2,700 in total…never recieved the goods…got his money back after a few months from the credit card company…google them and read all the horror stories. They will deliver a lot of the smaller stuff but bigger orders never appear…..kerso on e-bay….based in Scotland…does’nt have much online but e-mail him personally kerso1123msn.com Ian Kerr is his name. no problem with customs as I said already he is in Scoland, have bought Canon 7D, Canon 300mmf2.8, 16-35 f2.8, all delivered promptly and no hassle…and the best part…cheap as well.
I buy a lot of gear in Conns as well but I saved over €1200 on the Canon 300 mm f 2.8 lens from kerso.
Best of luck…Noel.
collyParticipantHey guys, just to let you know I got my camera delivered this morning – bought it from Simply Electronics for €579 including the 18-55mm IS II lens – it was considerably cheaper than any of the other online stores and far more so than any Irish shop. Delivered within a week as promised, so I’m very happy! I know there are some nightmare stories about SE but I was told that if you call up and check it is in stock, as long as everything goes smoothly then its fine, and worth it for the savings :)

I’ve used them a lot even for expensive items. Delivery only takes a couple of days.
