Which Medium Format?

So… now that I’m fully digital, I fancy a toy with film and a trip down memory lane.

I’ve always fancied a medium format film cam, and would be keen to buy a cheap one to toy with for a while…

I know you can pick up some bargains on ebay and there are some crazy cheap cameras kicking about, but have no idea where to start! anyone got any pointers, or suggestions?

    Cheers,

    Tim

I picked up a Yashica Mat 124-G on ebay for $99.

It’s a real nice medium format TLR

Having just read the holga thread, I’m really tempted to buy one of them too…

Yup you can get them pretty cheap on Ebay (and new)….cost’s about 30-40 euro’s. Probably the reason why I’d advise getting a Holga is cos

    a.) they’re fun
b.) you can also modify them as you see fit which is nice!

The Yashica cameras take great images, lens is super. Try a few slides when the light is good. Do however take it easy with the winding mechanism, it can stick with rough treatment. Best of luck , look forward to seeing the results.

Have a look out for this book. Collecting & Using Classic Cameras. Its a great read and gives lots of information about film cameras including twin lens models. Full title Collecting & Using Classic Cameras – Ivor Matanle. about 20euro on Amazon. Anyway aim high something like a Hasselblad 500C is what i would suggest.

MF kits are very good value at the moment, you are spoiled for choice.
