I haven’t been out with my camera for ages, been suffering from a severe case of can’t be arsed :( the lovely weather at the weekend pushed me into action again. We took a run out to Ballintoy to watch the sunset at the newly discovered (by me anyway) “Elephant rock”

nice set of images, just a couple of things i noticed as i was looking at them, thought id throw in my opinion as i think its invaluable to get feedback on both good and bad aspects of images

no.4 is my favorite, really like the way the yellow light hits her face and the soft abstract lines in the background.

no.1 would be really beautiful except my eye keeps getting caught by the red dot right in the middle of the furthest rock… took me a minute to spot it but when i did all the lines in the image seem to bring the eye right back to it, making it the focal point in the frame… also there seem to be a couple of spots on the lens in the upper left area. otherwise it is a really nice shot and i like it a lot.

in no.2 i really like the idea – the fence zigzagging out to sea with all the bits and bobs tangled around it, it really adds to the composition. its a pity about the green tone in the lower portion. also the horizon is slanted down to the left and there is some dust on the lens in the sky area. a wee bit of photoshop would sort out most of the minor niggles, but my knowledge is not sufficient to know how to deal with the green in the bottom… either in shooting or photoshop. perhaps someone else might know more…

no3. is very nicely captured, but for me there is less going on in this scene than 1 and 2.

as i said, just my opinions, hope they are useful.

    Hi Neil,

This is a quite good set of images.
It’s a lovely time of day to be out with the camera and the colours can chamge minute to minute.

As Isabella noted you masy have some sensor dust which is sowing as spots on some of your images.
This is quite easy to fix with either the Spot Healing Brush tool or Clone Stamp tool.

#1 is very nice and I like the colour.
It’s always difficult, maybe impossible, not to have part of the image overexposed when the sun is included in the frame.

The issues with #2 have already been mentioned and I’m not sure I can add anything.
The green on the lower part of the frame does look a little odd and if it is not what you want I would probably
look for a solution in the reason why it is this colour rather than trying to fix it.

    #3 is very nice too.
It does have some overexposed area on the right.
The sun is probably just out of frame here.
You possibly could have waited a bit longer until the sun had nearly set….maybe.
The wet sand and stones/rocks look really good.
There is a large expanse of empty sky and maybe a little crop off the top to bring the horizon to
a third might be worth a look.

Like Isabella I really like #4.
It has a lovely feel to it and the light playing around the scene is lovely.

When posting multiple images I think it makes it easier to comment on the images if they are numbered.
It also helps other viewers to know which image is being referred to.

Hopefully your appetite for getting out with the camera has been whetted because if this set is anything
to go by I look forward to seeing many more of your images.

    All the best,

    John.
