White Tailed Eagle
-
shutterbugParticipant
There have been three sightings of a White Tailed Eagle in the Wicklow area over the
last week or so, two in Rathnew and one in Newtownmountkennedy! Good news if they
are starting to find their own territory. Hope it stays around and stays safe. Keep your
eyes open for more sightings, maybe that rather large buzzard isnt :shock:joe_elwayParticipantA female has been doing a tour of the country AFAIK. She’s got to be a majestic sight. Hopefully the farmers will keep the poison locked up.
shutterbugParticipantLets hope so Aidan! My son was driving up to Roundwood yesterday morning and he sent
me a text to say that an eagle had flown out in front of his car……..not being a birdy type
I said it was probably a Buzzard as they are regulars around these parts, but then I saw the
notes on Birding Ireland and realised that it probably was an eagle! (he didnt hit it by the way) :Dmiki gParticipantGood to hear that they are settling into their new home. Hopefully nobody will try to kill them with poison (or with cars :lol: )
Dermot1ParticipantRichardTMemberI’m not a huge fan of bird photography( I love them but just don’t have the equipment, But enjoy watching them if i’m out for a cycle or going for a drive) anyway you might all be interested in this http://www.goldeneagle.ie/portal.php?x=2&sid=c48ecbd0381d79c07319ab2ad0b07214″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
It’s the page for the white tailed eagles introduction and if you look here you’ll see it also has trackers on some birds! : http://www.goldeneagle.ie/portal.php?z=2″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
But for the only reason I can think these are a good few days behind due to the fear that someone who doesn’t like these creatures would attempt to kill them if they were near their land so there’s about a ten-fifteen day gap,
But It does show on the 5th of April there was one in Wicklow! :)
shutterbugParticipantAnother sighting of said White Tailed Eagle, this time by son No 2 sitting in a field (the Eagle not the son)
on the road from Wicklow to Beehive Pub on the N11, so still in the area :)Now both sons have seen it hopefully I will be next :roll:
miki gParticipantMake sure to bring your camera with you everywhere. It will probably show up when you least expect it. :D
Dermot1Participantjust saw in this weeks wicklow times that a couple of peregrine falcons and a red kite have been found poisoned in wicklow county. they where released only last year.

I feel so angry when I hear of incidents like this. The birds are no threat to livestock, so why do people do this? :evil: :evil:
emjayParticipantReally sad. Every few weeks now a new reported case of poisoning these magnificent creatures. :(
MarkKeymasterJust came across this article regarding legistration…
http://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/govt-introduces-poisoning-ban-on-birds-of-prey-478114.html” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
shutterbugParticipantIts a start I suppose, but the people that do this dont care about the law and
how is it going to be policed? By making the poisons unavailable and illegal to
sell?MarkKeymasterI heard on the news last night that its going to be illegal to put poison into any bait (e.g. meat) which any
animal/bird etc could possibly eat.
