I like Ken’s writing, I just wonder how long we will have to wait before he turns around and contradicts everything he has just said :)

In the vein of the thread though, I think what I like most about film is the workflow. Lot of great things about film, and hopefully they shall never become lost on subsequent generations :)

i dont think they will be completely lost tbh

look at wet plate colloidon, i would love to give it a twist!
there seems to be a lot of people experimenting with it . . . and thats an older process :!:

one thing i really love is the mystery…. you can do all the calculations in the world but you still won’t know for sure till later. it cultivates patience, the whole procedure is magical.

yup – realising you only have [in some cases] 6 shots per 120 roll to work with it makes you think more
about your process – film photography forces a big learning curve in photography techniques
…but i think digital photography demands a big learning curve in post processing techniques

    generally speaking of course :D

I’ve a D3s, X100 digital that has been gathering dust for a little while now… They get used maybe once a month.. if even.. My F100 and my Mamiya RZ’s are what I grab now.. after doing Peter’s (momochromemeath) workshop in the Burren this year I’m actually selling one of my motorcycles cause I need the space for a dark room. I only got a digital camera in 07 but never stopped taking my film camera with me.

There is something about, metering the shot, taking your time with it, shooting the roll, developing the roll seeing the negs and soon enough I’ll be able to darkroom print them but for now it’s a scanner..

hmm sounds good! would looove a darkroom . . . someday.

I could sell my 2 motorbikes in the garage and convert it . . .

    what bike are you selling?

An old race bike of mine… 1996 GSXR750 SRAD, raced it for a good few years before I got a GSXR1000 race bike when they came out. It’s a hard thing to sell cause of all the work I put into it.. Lightened balanced crank, Carrillo rods, Wiseco pistons blah blah blah.. Have been streetfightering it… but not getting the time to do what I want and to be honest I think I need a slight change. I’ve owned that bike since 1997…

You really don’t need that much space for a darkroom, can be easily set up in a small enough place… And you can get the enlargers trays etc cheap enough.

Waiting to see what I got, if anything :)
The smell of film, yep I think its great.
B+W film comes out looking how I want it, ie I’m not having to mess too much with photoshop.

same as that mark! black and white does come out pretty much as is.

good luck with the sale johnhig – not the best time to be selling though.
