I am trying to find the tool for a series I have had in mind for a while, and I was experimenting with a pinhole camera today. Getting the exposure right proved to be a bit difficult, but I’m working on it. Since there was not that much light I was guessing the exposure with reciprocity error (I got it wrong).
What do you think?
MartinOCParticipantThis photo is indeed like a dreamscape,
it is quite confusing, close up the left and right seem to be different photos
but if you step back a bit the image seems more cohesive.
It might be an interesting photo to examine print large, but it may suffer in enlargement, but the limitations of pinhole would show I guess.I think it needs a stronger anchor point, something in the photo where you can end the confusion, and settle your eyes.

jessthespringerParticipantI like this.
I get what Martin is saying about having somewhere for the eyes to settle but for me I don’t think I need that. My eye is ending up through the gate onto the road and I’m also intrigued by the trees on the far side of the road.I love to see more of these. I think a pinhole series would be really cool. Something I’ve not seen here before.

randomwayMemberMartinOC: This is a blended pinhole image, taken with a cookie box with 3 pinholes on it… that’s why it’s confusing. I agree with your opinion that the main focus of the image could be on the gate and the road, giving a main point of ineterst… but there is very little control over the composition with this toy I made :)
Jess the Springer: I have more of these, but the results are unpredictable, and most of the photos turned out a big mess so far. This is just a toy, I will see whether I can learn to control this thing or not.
In this case, the camera was positioned vertically with one of the pinholes looking down on the ground, the other facing the bridge and the third looking up… the sky ended up on the bottom, the ground on the top… it’s like a shuffle game.
