Wicklow, troll under the bridge

Just returned from a 2 day trip photographing in Wicklow… Incredible weather! Sun, then snow, then hail, then sun again…
C&C always welcome..

RobMemberTroll? Surely your eyes need testing Si… ;)
Nice landscape, that second one, though it might not bode well
for you if you post it in the landscape section…
I’m not sure about it as an art nude though. She is rather small
in the frame, and competing for attention against the lake and
mountains; her positioning may have something to do with this –
despite standing still she’s facing out of, and apparently leaving,
the frame. Doesn’t work for me I’m afraid. The first. I like the rim lighting effect here, and the position in the
frame is good, though I’d like to see more room on top, and a little
more space to the right; I think it might give it more balance. Just
seems a little awkward cropwise at the moment.
Just my two cents worth…Rob.
AllinthemindParticipantThanks Rob, I’m not sure on the landscape shot either, the landscape is fighting with the model for dominance (and winning). I tried various widescreen crops on the other and that one was the one I had in mind when shooting and it looked the best (to me) afterwards. The line down her hair and arm hits the corner nicely, when I give her more room on the right, there’s a sense of “Tipping” over to that side.

I think this one works better.
ThorstenMemberWell my first comment and question would have to be – Fab model and where do you find them? I had planned to do an outdoor nude shoot on Friday but in the end didn’t go ahead with it because it was too cold and too windy for the model concerned. I ended up just doing some token headshots :(
Models that work in these sorts of conditions are few and far between, at least over here in Ireland. Did this wonderful model come over from the UK with you. And may I ask what brought you all the way over here to do a shoot in the first place? There must be countless locations like this and better all over the UK. I’ve often thought that if I want to do images like that I’ve really got to get off my bum and invest some money in a trip across the water.
Anyway, on to the images. The first one looks underexposed to me. Given the high contrast lighting, that’s not terribly surprising. I think the second one would have worked really well if the model was facing the other way looking out over the lake. So what if all we were left to see was her back, I think it would have made a far more intriguing image. I like the third one most.
Now, I’m off to pray to the gods to find me some nice warm weather or a weather resistant model so I can do some outdoor nude work!
Cheers,
Thorsten.
jb7ParticipantThese remind me a bit of those old H&E magazines-
Its all down to taste, of course,
but I suppose I’m not a big fan of these-
the Art Nude in the Landscape-
certainly not with small sensors and infinite depth of field-To me, there’s too much competition within the frame-
a suggested background, out of focus, might have worked better-I think the first pose is the best of these-
though I’m not so sure about the look back-
it might have been more credible had she been facing the sun-
and perhaps then it might have needed less fill, rather than more-just my opinions of course-
What extra light did you use?
