wide angle lens wanted

In my bit to help the economy i decided to buy me a wide angle lens.
i use a canon 400d
Anybody has suggestions?
I have to say that I’m limited on the cash front so 1600 euro is absolutly out of the question (my misses warned me)
400 tops ,but really topsa good second hand one will do aswell
Was just looking in the window of Dublin Camera Exchange yesterday and the Sigma 10-20 is €529 while the Tokina 12-24 was €449, both Canon fit,

I think the tokina 12-24 is reputed to be better than the Sigma offering.
Austins Sigma 12-24 performed just as good as my 17-40 F4L on the 5D
when I tested them last year!I know THIS is sold but I actually used to own this
exact lens and it too performed just as well as the 17-40.FWIW this weeks Amateur Photographer has a direct comparison review between the Sigma and the Tokina….
Sigma – 86%
Tokina – 89%Read into that what you will. There was no clear winner, and the myriad of reviews on the net will not help you decide either way I fancy, some will even tempt you with offers of Tamron 10-24mm thrown in….
If you can trial either of them do so would be the best advice I could offer in the face of such mixed reviews.
Maybe you could check out the link below from the for sale section, I have this lens with a 400D and I think it’s a great combination.

This is a common enough question and one that I debated recently. More details can be found HEREand HERE.
My budget could not stretch to the Canon, so I had to decide betwen the reputed Sigma 10-20 and the Tokina 12-24. In the end it basically came down to which one I spotted first in the used forums… .I ended up getting the Tokina 12-24 and don’t regret it for a second.
I have used both side by side on the same body for the exact same shot and TBH there was very little in it. Either would be a great buy for the money.
