Wide Shift Lens

Hi everyone…
Just thought some of you guys might be able to help here… I know a few of yee do Architectural work commercially so I might as well ask before digging through google… Basically I have a Canon 24mm Tilt and Shift Lens which I use on my 5D.. Its my favorite lens by a long way.. after using it I wish all my lens had movements, especially shift. On many occasions when shooting tight interiors the 24mm just isnt wide enough. Yes I can just shift up and down and then combine exposures in PS but thats a quite time consuming. I normally end up using my 17-40 and keeping it dead level to avoid perspective distortion. Thing is then that I often have loads of boring ceiling or floor that with the shift lens I would have been bale to shift to avoid…! Know what I mean..? So my question is… Is there a shift lens available, ideally 17mm, but anything wider than 24 would be worth considering, in any mount that I might be able to adapt to my 5D. I am sure there are many medium format lens available but thats a bit of a minefield for me to search. Anyone any ideas…?
Thanks
Richie
SteveDParticipantRichie,
I would maybe call Robert Whites in Dorset.

Might be someone there who can help. I don’t know of any T&S lenses for Canon mount wider than 24mm.

jb7ParticipantHi Richie,
you do know, the pictures that you want to take,
can only be had off a view camera. The movements you’re talking about,
and the angle of view,
are not available on 35mm.The widest
(and first, and best, and sharpest, and most distortion free, and most expensive, still,)
24mm shift is the Zuiko 24mm f/3.5.As far as I know there isn’t wider.
I could be wrong,
and would love if someone told me I was,
cos I’m in the market for one too-But for the moment,
I guess I’ll just have to slum it with my Super Angulon XL’sSorry I can’t be more help-
Though Robert White is a good call,
you can buy Arca Swiss there-j
jb7ParticipantPS, as far as I know,
the angle of view on the 24mm TSE is about 100 deg.
Overall. The 72mm Super Angulon XL covers 115 deg,
without a centre filter. It allows 50mm vertical shift on 5×4,
and obviously,
more on the smaller formats-Tell me that aint got soul :D

ThorstenMemberI have no idea whether or not it would do what you want, but have you looked at something like the Novoflex Balpro1?
jb7ParticipantPS Part 2
A 6×9 rollfilm back on the 47mm Super Angulon XL gives me 70mm vertical shift-
Now thats just weird-The 24mm with 11mm rise is just about prefect in its angle of view for wide shots-
True, sometimes it would be nice to go wider,
but have a look at that drawing I did in the ‘Reception’ post-https://photographyireland.net/viewtopic.php?t=7926&start=15
Anything placed close to the edge of the frame gets severely stretched,
and draws a lot of attention to itself-Its nice to have the option,
but its also good to know when you might be pushing it too far-There is really only one solution-
Get them to design more generous spaces-
j
richiehatchMemberWell…
Thorsten… I think the Novoflex could be a runner… I will do some reading now…! Well spotted..! :D
J… That 72mm sounds sweet.. I’d say it’d leave a rather large hole in the wallet too and probably on the floor if ye dropped it…!
There is also this yolk that Steve D sent me…. http://www.zoerk.com/pages/p_psa.htm
Thanks again guys… who knows 5×4 might have its advantages after all…

jb7Participantrc53MemberThere is a Canon 24mm TSEII now and the 17mm TSE. Both recently announced, no clear delivery/shipping
dates — ?May/June — and both are extremely expensive.http://www.dpreview.com/news/0902/09021806canon17mm24mmtselenses.asp
richiehatchMemberYes I have lusted after that dam 17mm shift since it was announced back in February. Canon I
believe heard my prayers…! It was on display in Focus in Birmingham but they wouldn’t let me
touch it! Grrrrrrr… Anyway for the moment it is a bit out of my financial reach especially in the
current uncertain times…! I’ll wait for some reviews before making any solid decisions.Richie
RobMemberExpensive kit, those shift lenses. Love one myself, but way beyond
my financial reach too…If ever you come across a Zuiko 24mm and aren’t interest yourself
be sure to let me know before jb7 gets his hands on it…aoluainParticipantRichie,
I am using that Zoerk adapter meself, with 3 frames [2 shifted] I can get an angle
of view equivalent to about 20mm. it is a medium format lens I use 33-55mm.https://www.photographyireland.net/viewtopic.php?t=24638
Didnt know Canon was releasing a 17mm TSE, sounds good. Canon
are not by any means reputed to be the class leaders in Wide angle anything though.Still 17mm is very useable!
