That was probably the best bit of the show. First 10-15 mins was in Ireland. Scenery there looked aaaaaamazing. Funny coincidence: I was looking at some bear “safaris” on wildarena.co.uk earlier today.
richiehatchMemberYeah I had to rush home today to see that… then I remembered from the last couple of series something that annoys me about that programme…. its too bloody short…! Its always the same… just getting good and then bang… credits…. cant undersatnd why it cant be stretched to an hour…! Doesnt stop me watching it all the same…! :-)
Richie
joe_elwayParticipantWas thinking the same thing Ritchie. Way too short. But I suppose they’d need more than 4 or 5 days on location to do an hour. BBC’s Big Cat Week (5 shows) takes a month to film!
AliParticipantSame as you Tim, missed the damn thing. RTE1+1 would have come in handy. :)
I have it set to record on Sky+ just incase i forget :roll:ThorstenMemberCaught the second half of the show last night. I’ve got mixed feelings about it. Yes, it’s probably too short, but I also don’t think it focuses enough on the photography aspect of it. But then again it has to appeal to the widest possible audience and I suppose part of the appeal of it is that it shows people getting into (uncomfortable) situations that they would not normally find themselves in.

Tim
AliParticipantValentiaMemberI got Sky+ last week and I must say it’s been great. I would have missed the programme if not for it as I am well down the pecking order when it comes to what is on the TV here. Yes DVD’s can be burned from it.
As to the programme, it was a bit frustrating. I found myself shouting at Pat to press the shagging shutter stop dawdling. I think with this series, especially, the time should be extended as it is basically two different sections. The first dealing with evidence of the species existence here before they became extinct and then the photographic section. They also dumb down a bit too much on the technical aspects of the photography which is disappointing especially in the context of so many more people taking an interest in photography with the popularity of digital.
joe_elwayParticipantNext week may be cool … White Tailed Eagles. Apparently going to be re-introduced into Kerry. Seeing as they’re supposedly bigger than a Golden Eagle, I cannot wait to see what the local farmers will be saying. Could be great photo subjects if it’ll be legal to get anywhere’s near them. I’m guessing it won’t if they do something like what’s done with the Osprey’s in Scotland. Won’t blame them if they do.
LoGillParticipantI watched it and wasn’t too impressed to be honest :?
I agree that the photography tuition from Mike Brown was more or less “here’s a D2x, use it on automatic” ??? And to be honest I wasn’t impressed with the challenge or lack of in shooting the bears .. firstly around the bin and then the using feeding trays, That aspect looked to be much more difficult last year with irish wildlife … the barn owl or the otters for instance :?: :?:
Anyhooo.. I’ll probably see if I can catch it again ..
Any speculation as to what the other animals in the series might be… moose??
I have no notion by the way , just curious;)L
joe_elwayParticipantWe’ve got white tailed eagle next week. I expect wolves will come up in Eastern Europe, Spain or Scandinavia. There were Lions in Britain/Europe and Cheetahs in Europe … don’t know about Ireland but doubt RTE will send someone there for four days. Ireland was once in a tropical climate so who knows…. may some crocodilans?
And of course, the snakes that saint paddy banished from the island ;-)
I think they had a poor choice of contestant. Someone whose knees weren’t up to it and had to stick to full auto wasn’t a great choice IMO. He didn’t seem too bothered and was missing his GAA and breakfast fry too much.
