Hi,
have a friend going to the US this weekend, have been looking
at gtting the Canon 50mm 1.4 but is very exoensive here, found
it in NYC for about ?200.00 can anyone tell me if it will work on my
400d or would it be an american versionThanks
markcapilitanParticipantYou’ll end up with the Japanese version…like all the canon lenses!!! All EF lenses are the same fit no matter where you buy them – the prices as you’ve found out are not. That’s a mega lens…don’t ever sell it!
GrahamBParticipantThat lens is like gold dust over here.
I rang Conns about one a while ago and the guy actually laughed at me.
Gunns were getting in about five a month and they were flying off the shelves before
anyone even saw them.I havn’t looked in a while but I assume they are still in short supply here.
never let that lens go. In fact you could nearly buy a few and put them up on ebay.cian.m.hayesParticipantHot tip, Bermingham cameras have a couple coming in this week or next.
EDIT: I’m not a plant, it’s just that one of them is mine :-)

Outstanding – shame they will be at Irish prices though.
Still might be worth itmarkcapilitanParticipantI prefer the 85 1.8…but nice to know I have a 50 1.4 in the bag should i need a backup or for something else!! Two of Canon’s best lens for next to nothing…the other best of the best is the 135 2.0…my personal fav.
bethParticipantcheck out http://www.bhphoto.com in america, they have fair prices on everything, and whether you buy from them or not, its a good store to compare other places to to make sure they’re not ripping you off or too good to be true.
bethRodredMemberthanks folks,
i reckon ill go for it can afford it at the moment
but i suppose i cant affor not to either.cheers
carlParticipantThe 50 f1.4 is a super lens. It works as a lovely portrait lens on the cropped cameras and really shines on full frame as a low light gem.
It has its flaws but its my absolute favourite out of all my lenses.byrne5012 wrote:

Thats hilarious! Its amazing the attitude of some shops.
That reminds me of the time I went into a travel agent and asked about going to a certain sunny location in the med.
Granted that it was a few weeks before I intended to go but the guy actually laughed at me and asked what drugs I was on. :shock:gerardkParticipantHave to agree the canon 50m 1.4 is an excellent lens on cropped or full frame worth the difference over a 1.8 in my opinion.

In fairness though Conns is normally very good ( except when you order filters but
thats a different story ) I think the guy was just trying to be funny. He may have been a little
young and inexperienced
