Window Light

Fabulous pose, maybe pull her “hip” arm up and back slightly to give better parallels with her back, that’s a really minor point, the mood is excellent Thor. Was this against a large window on a grey day? As you know, I’m not a fan of white backgrounds as I feel they wrap around the subject rather than let the subject stand forward in the frame.
Particularly, I love her bum/legs, the lighting is excellent.

ThorstenMemberYes, indeed, this was against a large window on a grey day. The windows was draped with white material to diffuse the light and provide privacy for the model. I’m not a fan of white backgrounds either, but only in the context of traditional studio portraits because they have been done to death and often very badly. A properly lit white background and correct placement of the subject ought to ensure that you don’t get this wraparound effect (blow-by) which you describe.
However, for subject like this I quite like the wraparound effect, so much so that I’ve actually shot into a large Octa-style softbox to achieve the same effect. Combined with some highlight diffusion in post-production, it creates a wonderfully sensuous image, in my opinion. Here are the other two that I liked from this session using the same window:
AllinthemindParticipantRobMemberGorgeous lighting on all these Thorsten. Very impressive work
indeed. I am a fan of this ‘wraparound’ type of lighting, particularly
when it comes to nudes. As you mentioned yourself, it does help
create a more sensuous mood…This is exactly the type of thing I’ve been trying myself, though with
dreadful results so far…Rob.
seanmcfotoMemberI suppose I can’t complain about the lack of activity on this forum, if I’m not commenting and posting myself.
The 3rd shot is my fave, but I do like the pose in the 2nd. I love the muted skin tones.
gsParticipantthe b&w (toned) version works the best for me & is a well executed shot

deeorganParticipantStunning images. So beautifully lit. I love the first one and of the other two the first one is great. I find the position of the head in the last one, looks a bit unnatural for some reason. In saying that, I’d be ecstatic to come even close to the excellent quality of these images.
